Working on a new Setec Astronomy device after my previous build got resin leaked on it. Going to go all out with a hinge and the internals, I also want to keep as much of the tape mechanism in places as I can so it looks more stock.

Working on a new miniature. But not doll house furniture this time. Unless you have a very specific idea of 'doll house'. It's an IBM 729 tape drive. I want to recreate the IBM7090/7094 used at NASA for Gemini/Apollo in miniature. (the Apollo 7094 was used for just one flight path task while the rest was done on a System/360)

IBM 729 tape drive model, ready for a test print. The glass will be laser cut acrylic. Hinges on this scale are chaos, so it won't open once assembled.

Man, this is already turning out better than I expected. So far I don't have any fixes to do. Maybe I can inset the frame into the cabinet, but that's about it. Shiny. IBM 729 tape drive, test print.

I am over the moon with this. I'll take some better pics once it's assembled. This is just dry fit. IBM 729 tape drive miniature.

Still a dry fit, but I've redesigned some of it so that it snaps together. I may change the shiny aluminum to more of a matte silver So that it doesn't blend in with the white so much. Or maybe not. 🙂IBM 729 tape drive miniature.

Test print of IBM 711 card reader. I ended up painting it because it has black accents, like the card tray and power switch, that get lost if it's black. But I want to find a better filament so that they don't have to. I have some IBM blue filament coming today to do the blue center panels, so I'd like to try to figure out how to do this without painting anything. The cabinets of the 729s would also being this color instead of black.PS - All printed on Bambu X1 Carbon and P1S printers.

Next is the 7094 console. I also need to make some tiny stickers for the logo/lettering... that's always less fun.

Quick detour before I start on the 7094 console (and yeah... I'm gonna make a 7090 console as well, I think). Making raised floor tiles. Can't have a proper diorama without a proper floor. Filament update. The IBM blue filament is :chefkiss: perfect. The dark gray for the cabinets/chassis, not so much.

PPPPPPS - I'm going to make some blue (and maybe metallic) reels as well. I believe NASA had a horde of the blue reels at one point, based on some images. The IBM official pics mostly show white takeup reels and the white and clear supply reel.
