@volpeon I believe it is always easier to start somewhere to ease people into the whole idea, then gradually expanding their horizons until they've figured it out naturally. I'd rather people know about Mastodon than not knowing about the fediverse at all. If they've figured out Mastodon, explaining the rest will be much easier than if they're overloaded with hundreds of applications in the first place.Should it have been Mastodon that introduced them? Now that's Debatable, but it has, and we should take that momentum for what it is and go with it until people are settled. So yes. It's unfair for people who're putting in their heart and soul into an alternative platform, but you can definitely reap the benefits of this whole thing as well. Work with it, not against it.Just my opinion.

@slightlyoff developer ergonomics. I feel like a lot is just unnecessary framework overhead. I find the ratio of apps using a framework vs. the ones that don't to clearly be in favor for those that don't on the performance side. Making it easier to write code means it's easier not to worry about what you're actually adding, and how you're adding it. You might not even know or care that what you're doing is inefficient. Just my opinions and observations though.

At this point I am literally just begging you to stop putting hCaptcha in your apps. Please. I don't know what else to do. Please. Please don't do it. If it's on a website we at least have a chance. As bad a chance it might be. But if it's in your app anyone who can't do a captcha is completely locked out. So please. Do not do it.

Alright, listen up. I see a lot of discussion getting way too heated because you've got people with perfect English on one side, and people just struggling to get themselves understood in a language they don't speak well on the other, and then both sides just don't get what the other is saying and then things explode. I've seen this so, so many times. And honestly all this tells me is that it's really, really easy for English speaking people to think that since we have a lot of good English speakers on the internet, or that that is the bubble they always find themselves in, that everybody does. And this is so very much not the case and y'all should be careful. You're making enemies you don't necessarily have to make just because you don't consider that the person on the other side can't express themselves clearly and is just doing the best they can.

@Purple @charlotte @kkarhan that is a defeatist and ableist viewpoint. I have provided alternatives, which also include getting hCaptcha to actually fix their "accessibility". Plus, just a bit of googling not only provides me with alternatives for captchas, but also provides me with abot which is specifically designed for solving hCaptcha's which I might have to start using. This, to me, basically already renders captcha useless and as literally nothing but an actual barrier to legitimate users, and not everyone has the technical knowledge to use those bots either. And if we can use them, then everyone else, including spammers, can use them too. How would you feel if you had to email every site to be let in and possibly get no response? Or, even worse, get a response that is actively hostile? Should I just stop using the internet?

This morning, someone called my dad in my name and started asking questions, using what we believe to be AI voice cloning. Be mindful and tell those close to you to be mindful as well. Figure out a way to ID yourself. This tech is quite dangerous and it is being used for evil. Who would've thought.
