Fascinating to see that even when a white man points out abuse on Mastodon that his replies are riddled with "move to another instance"Guys, while I know you're trying to help, you're not. The abuse shouldn't exist. We should be working together to figure out means of social consequence for moderators/admins of instances that allow hate and violence to happen. We should be standing in solidarity with the victims of abuse on those instances not just telling them to move.Do we tell the gay person who wanted a cake at their wedding to just go to a different business when the cake seller is homophobic and refuses? No. We worked to create anti discrimination laws and pushed that they be enforced. Mastodon needs an anti discrimination rule that is blanket for all instances and enforced somehow without losing the decentralized nature. This is sociology 101, all societies need social mores. And if we can't have social mores that put marginalized and abused people first and enforce the lack of abuse then maybe we don't deserve to have this space.We gotta do better

@balrog_booger thank you for at least making a response rather than just calling me an f slur of giving me a rape threat. would it suprise you to know i am a christian? i don't trample on heartfelt religion. i denounce religious oppression and harm that leads to violence and hate. Jesus did too. I'm gonna block you like i did the other people who found this post to respond to it, but you at least get a response. if you engage further tho i will report as harassment.

i didn't realize how much feigned incompetence and confusion or just plain dumbness was a real tactic racism uses to derail conversations and tire out people of color in an aggressive way til the conversations i've joined in on here. like hot damn.weaponized incompetence indeed.

@ssfckdt @AtlantaAntifa @monkeyninja @BlackAzizAnansi and obviously a tech solution won't always take care of people problems, and of course i'm not gonna advocate that as the only approach, but dealing specifically with your worries that dealing with this problem of racism means messing up moderation by instances and decentralization, i would say it doesn't have to and instead of responding like "you're trying to ruin our toy!" you could respond like "wow, yeah, that's an issue we hadn't considered thanks to our white lens, let me ponder some ways we can address this while still maintaining a decentralized network" and before you go 'it won't work" just don't, at least give it some time, the giving up so fast before you've even really tried is the issue here, and it shows a major lack of imagination

@ssfckdt sociology 101, all communities has encultured power bases based on cultural mores and biases, whiteness and having the knowledge of how the tech works gives you all the power here, and with empowerment comes authority. you hold the strings here, all you white tech bros who know a lot more about how this works than us do, and it would be nice if you pulled those strings to come up with solutions that will work for us all, and not just yourselves.

@Malcriada @ssfckdt @AtlantaAntifa @monkeyninja nah seriously, it's mostly been this, and maybe some people have argued for a more centralized moderation solution...which personally i would have issues with....but i think there's a lot of malicious incompetence happening with folks not even willing to find a decentralized solution to this. and on top of that not even willing to just you know...stop being a racist.
