@tek as an example, my friend @pirmas697 had made some posts which I see if I check her profile directly, but not in my home feed. We’re mutuals. No idea why. There’s a few others at instances like mastodon.social who are similar.

@psquiddy your instance administrator- the person who keeps ordering the pizza for everyone to eat at lunch- is able to tell bullies to not show up. Sometimes they can tell the entire school bus of bullies they're not allowed to show up anymore and they need to go to a different school. Mine does it all the time!

@psquiddy they can include other moderators but yes, the person hosting your instance is moderating on your behalf. That's one of the reasons why it's important to choose a good instance; places like mastodon.social are much more lax, while many community-run instances are proactive about defending themselves.

@Archivist @psquiddy @selea Also, if you see an issue that you think the entire community should know about, consider the # fediblock tag to bring it to folks' attention. People regularly use that to spot troublemakers and sinkhole them before they get too far.

@tek @redlilrascal @kamenrunner I'm personally past the phase where I would be following _typical_ brand Twitter... but if a USL (soccer league) instance popped up and I was defederated from following Detroit City FC, it would be a dealbreaker personally.That said, not all corporate entities are equal in that regard and I could see some that are worth blacklisting on sight.

@tek @redlilrascal @kamenrunner That, and the algorithmic bullshit on Twitter that forced that stuff onto your feed without your consent was half of what made it so onerous.There's no quote-tweet riffing here that breaks filters. No ad space. No posts that were only liked showing up as if they were posted by somebody.Posts from a brand on fedi just wouldn't affect things the same as they did there, I think.

@jonn_blanchard @selea seriously. When I realized that Windows has VMS heritage but VMS still has a lot of different stuff about it, I wanted to try it. Guess I never will now!(Schedule is busy atm, now would not have been a great time to go for it- but it was on the list.)
