@futurebird Whether you feel safe or not entirely depends on your own implicit biases. Many people feel safe driving to the airport, but are anxious about flying. But in reality they are at much more risk in the car than the airliner.Folks who have a media diet full of xenophobia are going to be anxious in a cosmopolitan place like NYC, whether that's rational or not.

@selea I'm no psychologist, but my hunch is there's something akin to pareidolia (e.g. seeing faces in non-face objects) but for intelligence.Like the human mind has heuristics tuned to recognizing intelligent behavior, and we are much more prone to overestimate intelligence than underestimate.Chatbots are designed to create that illusion and take advantage of those heuristics.

@futurebird I always imagine cats see humans using a phone, computer, etc. and think the human is stuck in a trance or having some mild seizure. So the cat tries to bring the human back to normal consciousness.

@futurebird Sometimes I wonder if there's a reasonable way to estimate how incomplete our fossil record really is. Even for large vertebrates, the very special circumstances that lead to fossilization, and the very special circumstances that we discover them... we only have the tiniest keyhole view of the ancient past.
