The idea that leaving Twitter for other alternatives is akin to quitting a battle is erroneous. We don't sign up on SM platforms to fight. We don't HAVE to deal with trolls and bigots unleashed on us by a system that is designed to profit off of this interaction. Our FoE includes the right to engage on our own terms. So stay if you wish to. Leave if you wish to. No value judgment attached to either. It's a goddamn social media profile!

Kashmir, Ayodhya, are all instances of occupation by brute force, legitimised by the country's top court, doing permanent damage to our people and our sense of justice.Remember this the next time the SC delivers a judgment that seems to protect our rights, and we have the urge to say 'faith restored!'.

Good people of Mastodon, I've been seeing a number of posts here that compare the Ayodhya judgment to a husband losing his wife to another man, treatment of rape victims etc. This is quite worrisome. Women aren't property that one can win/lose claim over. Such comparisons reinforce the idea of ownership over women as passive objects. I have high hopes from this space and how we talk about women here. So please do continue with the much-needed criticism, but please keep women out of it.

Any proposal or solution that seeks to address rape:- but speaks ONLY to women, putting the onus of their safety on them alone (take self defence classes, use a pepper spray, install an app, etc.), - and takes away men and their problematic behaviour out of the conversation completely (because they won't change, because it's probably easier to talk to women than call out men)is not a solution. That's just buying time.

@the_robot I hear you, but criminal mindsets won't change or are we not too keen on having conversations with men that would make them uncomfortable? I appreciate your suggestions (we already do most of these and more), but I'd like to, for a change, see lists that tell men what they should/shouldn't do. @Neeneen
