@thegibson Forgive the meta but I recall some muttering about a patch going into masto to autoblock instances that send > 500c posts. Am I recalling correctly?

@shibayashi @thegibson Yeah, it was based around some rantings by E that masto was a microblogging platform and maybe even 500c was a mistake. He's had these rants before.

@SetecAstronomy @anish My terminal does Unicode, color, and opens images in feh quite nicely :) On my backup server, I use getmail to download my mail into a Maildir and point whatever email client I feel like at it. Usually mu for advanced searching

@kelbot Indeed. But not for Windows or Mac OS. They still get an Electron app. I get why devs like Electron. It's still evil :flan_evil:

I've got a theology degree and I can't stop rolling my eyes and passing out laughing as games like the Darksiders trilogy mix and mash bits of overheard rumor about the wackier edges of ancient christian theology. f The older heresies are great and the Apocrypha are fun. But there's all kinds of other crazy shit that no one actually believes that one could use.

In the first century, there was a booming market in what we'd now call fanfic. Crazy shit about Jesus to sell stories. My favorite is a story about Jesus basically being shit at sports as a kid. So, to win, he struck down his opponents. Like lions coming out of the walls and shit. All explained away later as "well, Jesus wasn't sinless until he accepted the mantle as an adult. So up until then, he had crazy god-like powers but no Jesus responsibility".

Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's "Hurt" is like a punch in the gut, every time. The NIN version is a mid-20s kid talking about suicide depression. Cash had been given 18 months to live as was looking back on a very tumultuous 70 yrs, one full of fame, addiction, and then abandonment. He was sitting at home with Rick Rubin and an acoustic guitar, pouring himself out.

@pea wait.... that’s a shitty commit message? that’s better than like half the people I’ve ever worked with. Hell, our main work repo is full of before-my-time commits like ‘typo’, ‘it works’.

@pea You've got better discipline around commit messages than most folks I've ever worked with, including me most days sadly

(To c&p something I said over on twitter because I think y'all will appreciate it more)When Github goes down, FOSS effectively stops right now. It's tragic that we've allowed a single company to gain such control over the open commons.I recognize that we are in this situation mostly because the 'distributed' side of git is only usable by experts. And I recognize the niche that GH fills (ticketing and PRs in lieu of emailed patches)(1/2)

the end result here is that the technical deficiencies in git create a barrier to non-experts which has led us to grant an american corporation exclusive control of vast swathes of the FOSS commons. This will not end well.2/2

@chuck @kemonine This is going to be a desktop class machine. I've been doing a bunch of personal stuff on the box I built for work and it's been bugging the hell out of me to (a) be on linux (b) on a box optimized for work foo.

@jackivan88 The surface go with win10 is a lovely device, in my opinion as well, and made even more useful for folks of our persuasion via WSL
