Maybe it’s the language barrier, but I don’t see the point in calling oneself “queer” or “non-binary”. Aren’t we all, to some extent? It’s sounds like a modern take on “I’m not like the other girls” 🤷🏻♀️

@Ladyfat I wonder how all those podcasts/websites etc that make a living of Rowling’s work but have stated their “support” of TRAs, denounced her and are using the “death of the author” as an excuse for continue to make money from HP are going to cope if/when the TRAs turn to them and demand that they stop their work. I mean, there A LOT of people in this business. Mugglenet, HP & The Sacred Text, Witch Please, etc. What about when they demand that anyone who is even remotely associated with her to quit? Like all the other authors in her publishing house, the illustrators, the booksellers, etc? These people are not going to throw their income away because of TRAs, even if they truly believe that JK is transphobic.

@Ladyfat FFS she IS Tahani, her The Good Place character: performative, desperate to be liked and unbelievably self-centered.

Good news: A good friend of mine is finally peaking. I’m helping, of course, with well chosen articles, news, etc.Awful news: The main reason is her 12 year old stepdaughter wanting to became a boy because she “doesn’t like her body” and only likes “boy stuff”.Do we ever win? 😰

@Cousin_Isobel I’m not sure, we haven’t met in person since March, but they are “progressive leftists”. I am doing my best to help my fried develop a gender critical approach and hopefully she will then provide a sane view even if the parents start to go down the road to transition. I feel so hopeless right now. I now this kid, she is not girly-girly, not a tomboy, not even gender-nonconforming. Just a kid who was caught in this madness and has started spouting the EXACT crap you read on every Tumblr/Reddit/Mermaids “trans story”.

@Chronic-Yonic I’ve been fantasizing with a Christmas traditional thing for WEEKS: a sort of pumpking fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon & sugar.

@Cousin_Isobel Argh.... it's the leftist/progressives craziness (and I considere myself on the radical left) that is feeding people to the far-right groups. People feel underrepresented, their concerns not listened to, and being labeled "bigots" for anything that's not the "party line". Then they turn to whoever listens to them and addresses their concerns. You don't want to be in that group, but think how many people became in contact with that ideology and stayed because they felt finally heard?

I've been avoiding social media for the past couple of months. Yesterday I decided to dip my toes on Instagram, and what do I see? One of "progressive" parties in my country is pushing legislation to "protect trans kids". I read it and it's the usual mantras and nonsense. So, what do I, someone who gets really stressed with social media arguments and avoid them like the plague, do? In the words of Captain Picard "Engage"!Fear not, dear Spinsters, I survived. And consider it a success because, thanks so some dudes challenging my inicial comment, I was able to rationally expose a gender critical view in several comments and direct people to sites like Transgender Trend. My inicial comment was the one with the most likes in the thread.I don't have a lot of followers on my IG, so gaining attention in a political party account where I'm sure a lot of people were reading, was the best that I could do at the moment. So, whatever small steps one can take, let's celebrate!

@GeorgiaMcGraw Privileged kids doing what privileged kids do!I've had a girlfriend for 5 years that was about the "social justice" and "people's revolution" and all of that. In theory. She was very privileged and had a serious case of prejudice against the actual people in the working class, they were all so "dumb, and with bad taste, and impossible to have an intelectual conversation with!" If only they read more Marx! The relationship was toxic and borderline abusive, but what really ended it was when I needed to start working on low-paying job while in University to survive. She started criticising me for becoming "like them" and was really embarrassed that her girlfriend worked in the mall. She then dumped me (more or less, by this time I had enough of her) to start a relationship with the rising star in our party (who is now a member of parliament but dumped her haha). Please, feel free to laugh about my stupidity, I've healed enough to laugh myself.

@GeorgiaMcGraw when I said kids I meant in a way "growing up privileged", not in the actual sense; sorry for the miscommunication, I didn't mean to make excuses for these adult people.I experienced the same as you. Before working those jobs, I was myself very ignorant about the actual working class. I used to idolised a few academics/artists/politicians who were soooooo enlightened but now I see through their ignorance and cowardice to engage in actual debate. Everyone is always afraid of being cancelled. The working class is diverse and full of people far smarter and experienced in life.

@Tpock @Cousin_Isobel it's easier to think that the Trump voters are awful, bigoted people, then to look at and address our own failings in the left. I refuse to believe half of the americans are batshit crazy. It's unlikely and very patronising. But then again, patronising people who don't agree with, is something leftists are becoming very at, isn't it? "Educate yourself" is thrown in at every argument, assuming that the other person must be ignorant on the matter.

@perimenopause_hell @Cousin_Isobel In my country we have a far-right party that's gaining traction (already one member of parliament). In the last elections there was a medium size town, in a rural district that voted for them in statically abnormal numbers. Why? Because they have been having problems with a particular community of gipsies, and their concerns where brushed aside as "xenophobia". I am not sure if those particular gipsies were a problem or not, but I find it strange that, since there are gipsies all over the country and are as harmless as anyone else, this town decided do become bigoted in group. No one cared for years that the people in this town were reporting being assaulted and their kids bullied in school by said gipsies. So they voted for the one guy who did.

Just finished "The Body: A Guide fo Occupants" by Bill Bryson. The book was fun and interesting, but what REALLY made me giddy and was a nice surprise was that there was no mention whatsoever to gender identity. Women and Men were referenced as such: in the chromosomes part, the difference in bodies, conception, pregnancy, how diseases affects us differently, everything! As it should be, but let's face it, no author/publisher today is ignoring gender identity by accident, it was an obvious choice. *Of course* that there are some TRAs in the Goodreads reviews giving it a bad review on account of this approach, but not really a pile on like women authors receive. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43582376-the-body
