@stefano My blog is set up in an OpenBSD VM on Vultr. I recently rebuilt it using 11ty as my SSG. Very happy with the results...but I need to figure out how I could get drafts to work right with my RSS feed :) Currently anything in my blog posts folder makes it into the feed, draft or not.

@stefano Nice! I've been quite pleased with it as a backup destination for restic. I also have a few samba shares in a native (joyent) branded zone using the in-kernel SMB server. Works flawlessly. Way easier than using samba. Still haven't gotten NFS to work...mostly troubles with clients and me barely understanding NFS. SMB just worked

Early 2025 computer goals: fix my blog, replace parents ancient FreeBSD Plex server with dinky less ancient NUC I have + extra 4TB drive I have and switch to OmniOS with LX zone for Jellyfin, improve my zrepl backups, write some more blog posts, move my Ansible stuff to run from a SmartOS zone and get my Ansible stuff where it needs to be, automate ssh host key signing/rotation on all my personal hosts

@matthew @subnetspider I guess I haven't tried to see that NetBSD supports nested virtualization, but that would be interesting to see if it does work

@matthew @subnetspider It is one. OmniOS is an illumos distribution. There's other cool and unique illumos distributions like SmartOS and Tribblix and OpenIndiana

@matthew @subnetspider OpenIndiana has a desktop focus where OmniOS has a server focus. Also yes, OmniOS does have support contract options

@stux for many years my family computer was basically in a wardrobe. 3 bottom drawers, a place to hang shirts, and a panel to pull down where the shirts would hang. We put the computer in the hanger part and would put the keyboard/mouse on the leaf that folded down

@stefano I started on FreeBSD for my home server (after some time with Ubuntu), but found out that I was using it similar to the way SmartOS wants you to use it. Because of that I stopped using FreeBSD on my home server and SmartOS has significantly cut down my maintenance time. Very cool having diversity of choice with software. Not everything is a nail

@SlicerDicer Very nice! I've been finally hitting limits of 64GB RAM on my SmartOS server. I have too many zones
