Andrew Yang's "UBI" plan basically guarantees it can only be used by people not dependent on social services or who don't realize how much it will completely destroy their lives if they give up those services in exchange for $1000 a month, and I truly despise him more than most other candidates for this trojan horse against the poor.

A studio apartment in Brooklyn will run you about $1600 a month (if you're lucky), so the rent assistance alone makes it not worth it. If you want to get insurance, you'll be paying about $400 a month, and if you have any condition where you need to see a doctor regularly, your copay has shot up from $0 to $35-50 (and for medicine, from $1 to $15-30). All your food will also have to come out of pocket.The average Social Security payout is about $1400 a month, so any senior who is conned into taking the "freedom dividend" instead also loses money.

@tesseract Essentially, to benefit from the "freedom dividend" instead of losing money and making your life materially worse, you have to be making enough money to not need any social services *and* know you won't need them going forward.If you're making $100k a year, you're suddenly making $112k a year with no detriment to your life. If you're poor enough to use any social services, you're either not going to opt into the program or you're going to do it not realizing what you're giving up and be absolutely fucked.
