@clive I agree all of those reasons make sense.I wonder about another factor that isn't mentioned (in your post, or by Narayanan): isn't TikTok all about interest graphs, not social graphs?In contract: Facebook recommends topics we are interested in mostly from content generated by our friends.That makes FB feed less interesting overall because (a) while we want to know what is going on in our friend's lives, (b) most of our friend's posts are pretty basic boring stuff w/ little novelty

@wjmaggos @coachtony I agree.There's a lot more viable network topologies here that (potentially) transcend mainstream/universal. Federation has opportunity for proliferation of varying-sized-communities of interest (based on topics, places, vocation, etc.) to intersect with general / mainstream ones.For me, it's a question if there are enough viral content generating sub-communities that intersect w/ cohesive communities in ways that sustain critical mass of usage
