the new UK cabinet is getting bad press about public schooling-but can we focus on the oxford PPEs…it’s the ubiquitous degree of the shallow politician. As Cummings noted in his Covid testimony-as he and others had studied History they couldn’t have good conversations with scientists…not on things like exponential growth, 2nd order differentials “rate of change of infections” or test false positives. Kemi Badenoch (Computer Systems Engineering at U Sussex) is the outlier#ukpolitics

@ottocrat this is something we in the UK will benefit from without noticing that the reason apple just went to USB -C on phones was EU pressure, or that all new cars have already embraced it too. Two downsides- cable quality. The UK will probably permit budget cables from the Shenzen Dangerous Company via Amazon- USB-C power levels. Even raspberry Pi 5s benefit from an over spec 27W PSU; laptops more so. It’s a moving target

@robpike there are only two outcomes of software1. -it dies, either forgotten or wistfully remembered 2 -future maintainers curse your name, your design decisions and your implementation Really, death is the ultimate outcome of nearly all code (*). The only question is: how many people curse your name first?(*),vi and tex are probably immortal. Maybe excel too, sadly
