See how easy it is to block a self-proclaimed shitposter? You just click on the three dots. Any user can block any other user, or the entire domain (in this case, snowedin.town).

I just got out of the Barbie movie, and I have to say: it was just not realistic. Her head stayed on the whole time.

There seem to be a lot of people who don't believe in progress. To help with a bit of perspective, I recommend a visit to an old cemetery. Count the dead children. I was born in the 1950s with a condition that would have killed me in the 1930s. I grew up with leaded gasoline, coal furnaces, horrible water and air pollution, widespread poverty and ignorance, polio, tuberculosis, measles, mumps, and diphtheria.I understand the lure of nostalgia. I belong to half a dozen "you grew up in ..." groups on Facebook. I like old pictures and old cars and airplanes. But don't try to feed me crap about the "good old days." They were not. Especially in the American South. Most of the know-nothings clamoring to turn back the clock wouldn't survive a week without their air conditioning and their cable TV outrage channels. We don't look at data. We don't look at falling crime rates and rising literacy rates. We experience anecdotes. Much of them are falsehoods being fed to a sedentary population by media that packages tales of murder and mayhem as "entertainment," and outrage as "news." We don't look outside in our own neighborhoods, much less the world, where 86 out of 100 people can now read and write, and 96 out of 100 children now actually survive their first five years.

How did we get to a state where "stop killing one another" is a flameworthy political position?

As political kooks work to destroy public health, there sure are a lot of horrible diseases just waiting to get back into the business of killing humans. The anti-vax crackpots don't even know what they are.

The year I was born, there were 57,628 cases of polio in the United States. My childhood best friend was a polio victim who wore metal braces on his legs.We lined up in the school gym to get polio vaccines -- first the Salk killed-virus version, then the Sabin weakened-virus dose.Widespread vaccination works. The disease is now regarded as "eliminated" in the United States and indeed most of the world. But it is not gone. It waits for us to be stupid.

Then there was tuberculosis, called the "white death" because its victims looked pale. We bought "Christmas seals" -- decorate stamps for our holiday mail -- to raise funds to fight it. The town where I grew up had a huge TB sanitorium. By the 1970s it was closed and eventually became City Hall. But don't turn your back on TB. It was still killing in the 1960s -- Vivien Leigh, of "Gone with the Wind" fame, died of TB in 1967. It is not gone. In fact, TB in the United States increased by 5% in 2022, to 8,300 cases.

I had hoped that the "Kamala Harris for President News & Organizing" group would be the source of interesting and useful posts, but it's been invaded by whackatarians and shills for useless Putin-droids like Jill Stein. So far I've just muted the worst of them, but I'm reconsidering the follow. @kamalaharrisforpresidentnews

@tomjennings Not sure about other carriers but TMO supports voice over IP. They've gone downhill a bunch since John Legere left but the alternatives are not attractive and my whole family is on one plan.

@Nonilex Seems to me that when they mark an account as "dead" when the account holder is alive, that constitutes fraudulent financial recordkeeping.

@Nonilex Maybe Trump understands the oath to "preserve, protect and defend" as saying he needs to keep his splattered ketchup off the document.

Just leaving this here for people who claim to be Christian but are experiencing since magat confusion: "The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God."Leviticus 19:34
