@GNUxeava An excellent, concise, and above all clear explanation of missile guidance systems. Well done.

@piggo Will be interesting to see how this turns out. According to at least one Internet source (Big Clive on YouTube), lead-free is terrible for hand soldering. Do post how it went! And good luck!

@piggo interesting. I bought a pound of 60:40 SnPb last year from a Swiss distributor with no problems. Also, what are you using for flux with your stuff?

@penguin42 @attie was about to write exactly that. Unless you have so many zombies that you run out of PIDs, they should not be a problem for performance.

@penguin42 but the good thing is that now there are many diameters to choose from!

@sotolf Looking *very* casually through your algorithm, I don't think it's an example of dynamic programming. In DP, a problem is solved by solving ALL smaller instances of it. For example, computing the Levenshtein distance between words A and B works by computing the Levenshtein distance between all prefixes of A and all prefixes of B. I don't see that in your algorithm, but as I said, I just had a very casual look.

@Archivist @sotolf And you can compute the minimal(!) edits that turn A into B without also computing the minimal edits between any prefix of A and any prefix of B?

@Archivist @sotolf That's very interesting. Can you outline your technique?

@mttaggart I'm not sure what these experiments are supposed to show. Unless I deeply misunderstand how these programs are built (a distinct possibility), this kind of program will never be able to reason.

@mttaggart @paco Hyped, dangerous? Sure. Shouldn't have existed in the first place? Don't be ridiculous. I (and I suppose many others) got started in security because of PGP. It was the letsencrypt of its day and did much to popularise and democratise cryptography. It was even seen as a serious threat by the US government.

@mttaggart @paco Yeah, I realised too late that there was a tongue in that cheek and I'm sorry for taking it too seriously. But I have heard that argument advanced in earnest and it's not good for my blood pressure. Anyway, have a good weekend! 😊

@ChrisUplus Ich bin jetzt beim zweiten Anbieter in Folge (Umzug, nicht Anbieterwechsel) bei einem /64 und habe aus Frust hinter meiner Firewall IPv6 ganz abgeschaltet.

@mttaggart Very likely rn or another text-based NNTP reader, ca 1990. I don't even remember what it looked like.

@mttaggart Not sure I'm in the "doomsday prepper" category, and I certainly will not dictate anyone the tools they ought to use. But.There has been, at least in Germany, an unholy alliance between state organs and data collectors. For example, police no longer have to do surveillance themselves (which they're often not allowed to do) because private companies do that, and then the police can subpoena their records.I think that's worth resisting.
