@nick_tune We used to have this argument all the time while naming filters. Do you name the filter after what it lets through or what it keeps out?Air filter, coffee filter... spam filter?

@niclas @nick_tune Simplified Technical English (STE) is valuable in those situations. One of the rules is that you can’t use the same word for multiple parts of speech. It’s intended for technical documentation but I find it has useful reminders for general UX.

@aral My teenage daughter told me she’s “not into politics” — which is hilarious because she lives in the SF Bay Area and just doesn’t realize what politics is. I asked her if she thought her friends should be able to choose their pronouns.“Well, that’s just being kind, not politics.”

@alcinnz @aral My first exposure to this was building a country selector on a donation form for a non-profit. I suggested we just use ISO 3166-1 and was told that it needed to include Tibet. I thought it would be the simplest thing to just use a standard and had my eyes opened.
