       @ThomasWic I was an infantry Marine with 1/5 and later 3/5. Our equivalence is a CAR (Combat Action Ribbon) signifying you'd engaged in direct combat with the enemy.  At some point after 2005 or so, enough people were getting hit by IEDs or indirect fire that they changed the rules and started handing the CAR out like candy to all the fobbits who happened to be on a base that had a mortar round impact anywhere inside the perimeter. Probably one of those deals. Cheapens the entire distinction.

       @ThomasWic @Lonestar In Ramadi half our platoon was in a heavy firefight. I was in the satellite patrol with the other  squads about 6 blocks away. We were OM to their position but the main road we had to traverse had at least one known IED on it. Our platoon sergeant (A married gunny) took the long, circuitous route.  Every other guy wanted to blow past the IED and trust the armor on our Humvees to protect us.  I can think of a dozen similar situations. Makes sense now that I'm married w/kids.

       @ThomasWic  There was a guy on youtube called "Son of Newo" who did a deep dive into Charlottesville, including walking area, splicing that video of the event, and trying to deduce what actually happened.  He got a little conspiratorial about a minivan that "broke down", blocking the egress route just before the Dodge rammed the crowd, but it was a good dive. He was sure that an indie video journalist named Ford Fisher was tipped off beforehand.  Newo has since deleted all videos and gone dark.

       @IndiaMaria @DuaneCates @ThomasWic @NevadaJack There's more to it.The premier civilian Colt AR-15 is the LE6920. It's a great carbine, with a proven record. The problem is, there's such a saturated market with high quality competition, that Colt probably isn't selling a ton of them at the price point they want.They generally run about 1200 bucks. There's plenty of competitors with great rifles and more desirable features that cost hundreds less.

       @ThomasWic that's insane. This is the only thing I can reference it against: Ramadi 2005: small VBIED followed by Fuel truck packed with HE.The video you showed looks like 25x the size, plus airburst to boot.
