@Gina to add to the other answers, if the battery is more than 5 or 6 years old, it's probably end of life and needs replaced. Unfortunately that's a semi big ticket item (usually retails around $150 in the States)

@w96k one of the niceties of programming in #perl, you get this for free. It has a native documentation feature called POD (plain old documentation). Pod is a basic markup language and can be converted on the fly to htnl, troff, markdown, latex, etc, using standard tools. Any module you install on your system has all it's docs available to you as well because pod is embedded in the source code. Simply invoking `perldoc Module::Name` will pull up the docs just like man or info.

Had someone at $work refer to SMS phishing as 'smishing'. No, we're not going to make that a term. Just no.

@kev whhyyyyyy?! Who looked at that term and said, "yeah, this makes sense as a term for professionals to use". It sounds like something incredibly unsavory emerging from the horrible depths of urban dictionary

@urusan Ah, I misunderstood what you meant then. I thought you were referring to just simple tank-like controls. Ignore me

@urusan I guess if the question is did video games inspire the controls or vice versa, my intuition is the latter (i.e. the controls inspired video games.) That's because, until the 1980's video games were *very* niche. Modeling your control scheme for an industrial vehicle off of video games would be an odd decision to make as hardly anyone would have experience playing video games.

@joel @ascott seconded: place your alarm clock somewhere where you have to physically get up to turn it off. If you use your phone as your alarm this has two benefits.

@urusan Recent? The phrase "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" has existed since the 1700's. For some reason we keep saying, "Yeah, but this guy? He'll be okay"

@veer66 when I used a mac for $work, I rebound the fn key to ctrl as well. That way if I fat fingered that button instead of ctrl, it'd still work. You could probably rebind something like capslock though for a better solution.

@urusan "Premature optimization is the root of all evil" -- Donald KnuthWorrying about overhead from branching is almost always wasted effort, especially if you haven't profiled the code to find what the true bottlenecks are.Obviously, there are exceptions to this ("it depends" is always the correct answer in CS) but you should never worry about something like that until you have to.
