@gamingonlinux The the Steam Deck is going to be incredible!More seriously, I think it'll be more of the same honestly. Luckily, for me at least, the status quo seems quite good right now:More ubiquitous Proton support, more exposure to Linux via Steam Deck, EAC fixes, more developer tools for Linux releases. All great stuff. It feels like it's moving slow at times, but when I think about gaming on Linux 10-15 years ago, it's night and day.

@polymerwitch Imagine being as successful as LTT and complaining about people using AdBlockers.I'm not saying that people who create something don't deserve to be compensated for it, but in this case LTT seems to have plenty of sponsorship's and affiliations that no doubt bring in plenty of revenue.Maybe there's something I'm missing but it just comes across as whining. OTOH, it would be interesting to know if AdBlockers really do create a dent in the bottom line. I kind of doubt it though

@newtThese laptops are the absolute best. Lightweight, near indestructible, reliable, tons of I/O. I got a used one from Japan for around $200 US and couldn't recommend them enough.

@retroedgetech I have tons of old laptops I use for servers and other such things. The nice thing about using old laptops for servers, is they often have a built in battery back up :D If a business took an old laptop and basically shoved it into a box, and sold it to me at a reasonable cost, I'd absolutely buy that.Could probably sell on a website like Etsy.

Currently writing a blog post on writing software in #perl in 2022.I'm trying to crystalize my thoughts and arguments for and against perl as a "modern" language, and have ended up doing a lot more research than I expected. The article is already at 1500 words, but I'm trying to be thorough! To that end, any thoughts on perl?Do you still use perl? Do you love it? Do you hate it? Why? Do you use it at work? Are you writing tools? CGI web apps? One off scripts?I'd love to know -- thanks!

I only switched from #vim to #emacs about a year ago and I wish I'd explored it sooner.I can't believe how customized and comfy it feels after this time, just barely scratching the surface with elisp and macros.Understandably it's not for everyone, but if you're curious at all I'd encourage you to check it out.A few people over the years tried to get me to explore it, but I was always just happy with vi/vim/gvim. Wish I'd taken a look sooner.

@sneak Misinterpreted your meaning at first, thought you were talking about the X display server, couldn't resist.

My #moonlander keyboard finally arrived after a few weeks. Pretty interesting keyboard. And QMKs never been better. It's nice to be able to use the LEDs to signal different layers of functionality. Its a great keyboard but switching back to a split ortolinear layout is destroying my WPM. Hopefully some latent #ergodox muscle memory retuns.Hopefully will only take a few more weeks to get back to my old WPM, after which I'll hopefully be typing much more ergonomically!

Picture! Never been one for LEDs but QMK makes very good functional use of them.

@sneak I couldn't say honestly. I've heard people say it's 'scientifically' better but I don't really know to be honest.

@sneak Fair enough. He wrote it as far as I know. Controversial creator aside, I think the merits of it as a piece of technology far outweigh any legacy association to RMS.

@strypey I may be just ignorant, so please correct me if my thinking is wrong, but isn't that not a bad outcome in the Google case mentioned above?Basically, people can use GChat, OR they can use something else they prefer more, but the ease of use and utility is the same for each person, in accordance with their preferences? Am I misunderstanding the case? To me a world where everything is federated is clearly better than not, right?

@signal9 I love the Linux desktop experience for reasons you touch on here. Being able to have an interface that is consistent and tweakable, and then building a workflow on top of that, year over year, is one of the true joys of the Linux desktop.

I just released a new album! I'm not great at genre classifications, but I think you would call it #idm maybe? Experimental techo? Maybe check it out if you like electronic music! It's free to download. Will post IPFS links soon as well!https://autophader.bandcamp.com/album/the-times-you-stood-tall
