@thegibson Happy Winter Sir!The lights shine clear through the sodium hazeThe night draws near and daylight fadesIgnore the voices discard the dayFor the brand new darkness for the bright new way...Emerald signal the green on black...And so I find a place where I've never been seenFind another place where the red turns greenWhere the emerald glistens through the darkness againWhere the emerald glistens through the rain

Any folks have any thoughts/opinions on #MeWe as a #SocialNetworking platform which claims it has your #privacy as one of its main concerns?https://mewe.com/privacy

@HexDSL @LibertyPaulM It's weird how having attention & data stolen stealthily to fund content is considered a practice we should support - "it's the price we pay for access to free content". But the majority of the time, the free content isn't worth looking at anyways & theres too much of it & if we valued it more, savoured & enjoyed it, perhaps we'd be prepared to fund it in small sustainable & manageable amounts? We need a new model with ethical incentives! You Adblocker Communists! ;)

So, I have a very old Dell Mini 9 netbook, currently with v. old #Linux Lite on it - and I figure I want to stick something on that is minimal and fast, possibly terminal only. I only want #emacs + #orgmode on it - mainly for note-taking. Now I am a #mutt user, maybe pop that on. So I thought why not have a go at #arch linux! Trouble is it's i686 CPU, Arch doesn't do that sort of thing anymore.Anyone know another equally speedy/min distro that does?

I've tentatively given #Void #Linux a go. With the XFCE desktop. It seems to run ok, so far. In fact a little snappier than the old Linux Lite that was on there.I'm open to all suggestions (thanks for the one so far), because this isn't a desktop situation, more a notetaking platform I can carry about with me.As long as it does #emacs I can continue my journey up that learning curve whilst capturing pertinent notes on the way.

Comparatively judging #games on a linear hit parade "top ten" style ladder doesn't make much sense to me. My excitement in gaming comes from probing exploratory fingers into a particular niche & following it down into its hidden depths. Sometimes an honest tailored passion is a sweeter & more memorable find than a polished broad-appeal blockbuster twinkling in the Sun.Some of my most treasured gaming moments come from these unknown gems. It's a shame going niche precludes making a living.

Almost finished the first in the SINless series of #cyberpunk #books - Necrotech. I went in to it with some in-trepidation because the premise of cyber zombies seems a bit derivative.. I liked the in-your-face writing style. Brutal & honest. These "runners of the shadows", who over-pimp out their biology with tech, & finally lose control seemed a much cooler prospect than just run of the mill normal brains eating zombies.Characters & combat action is top notch.https://www.kcalexander.com/books/necrotech

@sir I've seen this sort of thing done with org-mode in Emacs using a system called "ditaa"http://ehneilsen.net/notebook/orgExamples/org-examples.html#sec-5-1and http://ditaa.sourceforge.net/might be an option, but I've never used this combo, only seen it in passing while trying to absorb what org-mode can do.

I feel like I can't function properly without #Emacs & #OrgMode nowadays - a mechanism by which I can record important information - my surrogate memory - in plain text with contextual markup. However, I need a speedy light editing solution for my other purposes, including plugging it into #Mutt mail client. So naturally I'm learning #Vim these days. I'm slowly grokking its power, but at the moment it feels like I'm like a sealion with oven gloves on playing jenga.https://www.invidio.us/watch?v=GqBy41Pe26w

I cobbled together a guide of sorts for setting up your own free #Gopher hole on https://sdf.org lynx gopher://sdf.org/1/users/spelkor gopher://sdf.org:70/users/spelkLook under the "Muse" section of my spelkhole, its in there. It should outline the basics of getting a user account, setting up a gopher space and building your first gophermap. Hopefully it will help people who are curious try out gophering, and some may support #SDF's public access #UNIX server going forward.

For folks who can't get to a #Gopher client or a web browser that supports it to read how to create your very own Gopherhole using #SDF - I've cobbled the original text information into a lite HTML page.https://sugarfreegamer.com/muse/gophering-guide-sdf.html

@art @yrabbit I'm a #Mutt user too, and the best thing I ever did was put my most visited folders on my Function keys F5 through to F9 (using custom macros). So I'm not Ctrl+j/k-ing my way up and down the folder tree. I drop into a folder and process the mail then jump to another folder and delete any marked on the way out. I do enjoy the simplicity and clarity that managing #mail in a terminal affords.

@matt oh I didn't know that. That's a shame. Hopefully somewhere down the line there may be a version without it.
