       @zleap @sfierbaugh @kentbrew @cbroome @pluralistic it's wild how LinkedIn tries to profit off the concept of "networking." But they've also been extracting value from in-house recruiters for a while, and I'm not sure the higher-ups and bean counters have cottoned on yet. A mass of laid off tech workers means they can keep it up longer.

       Man, I hope businesses that rely on SEO for views are ready for Google to try and capture more of that revenue for themselves. These layoffs sure make it seem like they're going to focus pretty heavily on #enshittification (thanks @doctorow ) and pulling the rug from under a loooot of sites that built a business around their search product.

       @opendna @joshsusser @seldo the key difference is that crypto didn't help the owner class consolidate more wealth, but chatbots can. The more search engines capture traffic instead of sending it out, the better for shareholder value. The more you can fire people (especially writers, maybe the c-suite's least favorite expense), the better for shareholder value.A bad user experience doesn't matter when there's no meaningful competition.

       @seldo @opendna @joshsusser Maybe some, but a lot of big money got in on the scam too late and in the wrong place on the pyramid. And I suppose it would be more accurate to say, "crypto is not an effective engine for the long-term project of transferring wealth from wage-earners to stakeholders." I mean, if they can repair its rep enough to get retirement plans to buy in heavily again? Maybe?But nothing beats devaluing labor of any and all sorts.

       @zleap @Sunny @flexghost I was thinking recently about how in the 90s the slang "going postal" blew up. Then I learned that from 1983 to 1999, 35 people died in 11 post-office shootings. Averaging ~2 people a year and less than a shooting a year. Back then, that was enough to get into the language we used....these days, it's a Tuesday.

       @kingu No mouse, and the word processing software mimicked typewriter functionality (backspace didn't delete characters, and overwrite was the default instead of insert).
