       @humanetech I think the most depressing thing about the last 10-20 years of development away from open communication standards and platforms is that most people can't even imagine another way. The fact that someone needs to ask, and you need to enumerate, all the stuff in that post pains me :(Good work, though.

       Being a "the fourth", I occasionally meet a Junior or Third, rarely another Fourth, and only once a Fifth. Recently that record was blown away by finding out one of my coworkers just had a baby and not only is it a *SEVENTH*, but its first name is the same as mine! #genealogy

       @TeacherGriff @vy @adamdavidson Can you elaborate a bit on "looks like a Fediverse norm"? What have you seen that makes it look that way to you?This seems like something it shouldn't be hard to get data on. Pick a term common to political posts and search for it on a well connected instance, see how often it comes up with and without CWs, and from where. Perhaps "polling data" or "election" or "candidate" or "gerrymandering"?

       @tilvids Plenty of platforms did just fine without/before internet ads, and there will still be plenty of options without them. Just because it's the most profitable way to run an internet business doesn't make it necessary.I anticipate there will be paid Mastodon instances with better performance. Some will take donations. Some will operate as part of another profitable business.
