@thestrangelet @lucasmz It isn't the opposite. Aral is twisting words to claim people are not supporting accessibility. Everyone involved wants it to be better, so why throw around words like ableist?

@thestrangelet @lucasmz I want to clarify that Lunduke is an actually bad person who I blocked completely. Aral is a good person who is just doing something I disagree with. There is a difference, but the tactic being used is not that different in my opinion.

This kind of treatment is exactly why I started @redox from scratch and written primarily in Rust. There is a lot of resistance to even minor beneficial change in Linux and related projects. I don't even try to contribute to the Linux kernel anymore.https://www.phoronix.com/news/Rust-Linux-Maintainer-Step-Down

@BrodieOnLinux @tripplehelix Why'd they end up arguing over what the word standard means rather than take even a second to consider application developers who have been asking for server side decorations and aren't able to make changes to wayland protocol requirements?Wayland has been forced on applications and needs to support their use cases! This is why COSMIC, like many other compositors, supports server side decorations.

@BrodieOnLinux @aks @tripplehelix We can get rid of the security holes but things like:- icon themes- desktop icons- app indicators- server side decorationsAre generally not security issues. Loading third party javascript straight into the compositor however...

@BrodieOnLinux @aks @tripplehelix I really hope something lands for this. It is a hard problem as positioning cannot always be respected with unique compositors.

The *only* reason I posted anything about GNOME, is because I saw Brodie respond thoughtfully about what the GNOME project could do to bring in more positive interest, and this quickly devolved into GNOME folks talking past him, misrepresenting what he was saying, and insulting him and his intentions. I recalled my similar experience in 2021.Knowing what I know about Brodie, he has an incredibly positive outlook and really does want to help Linux adoption. It would be wise to listen to him!

I will not post a link to this, and I deleted my previous link. My hope is that the GNOME folks will consider the small number of problematic individuals who are causing the majority of the issues for the project's involvement with the overall free software community. If they are interested, I can send a list of bad interactions in a private message.

COSMIC Alpha 5.1 was tagged today, and among the improvements it brings are across the board reductions in memory usage of all COSMIC components. This has been done through optimizing font and icon caching, which was overly aggressive. Future releases will continue to drive down resource usage!

@BrodieOnLinux All I am sure of, is there will be an alpha 6. Many of us had quite a bit of time off with vacations during November and December, so I expect alpha 6 to have a long list of added features compared to 5 and 4. If we hit all the important features for MVP, we will do a feature freeze for the beta, then as many betas as needed to resolve issues. During the beta, we will bring in QA and focus on bug fixes and polish. I don't know how long it will take to hit these milestones.

Fosstodon is having predictable issues, please recommend some mastodon instances that are minimally blocked by other instances
