@Flick Your tomatoes look great! My tomatoes have all but wilted and died by this point. This summer was really just a gardening trial run but nonetheless I should have done something different. My strawberries and potatoes didn't do fantastic either.

@Hyolobrika Mostly the non-functional OMEMO encryption duct-taped to it. I tried to get back on XMPP like three years ago and could never even consistently get my messages to decrypt, especially on two devices. Giant pain in the ass.

@ninapaley Overall I did enjoy this discussion, but I took some issue with his accusation of the "re-paganization" of our society, after which he mentioned pre-christian society being horrible. My first question would be "whose pre-christian society?" As English-speakers, we'd be culturally closer to the traditions of the Anglo-Saxons and related Germanic peoples than the Romans for sure, and a close, conservative reading of things like the Eddas or even Tacitus' Germania can (through some lenses) even suggest a moral system similar to that of a conservative christian. In fact, very conservative heathens tend to blame the same societal failings on christianity. Christianity itself even borrowed a lot from pre-christian philosophies such as stoicism. I would further ask: does the Bible mention the veneration of saints? Votive candles? Images of the Virgin Mary? The trinity (as mentioned during the podcast)? The rosary? These are in fact echoes more of Roman paganism than anything from the Bible. A sola scriptura protestant would certainly (correctly) identify these elements of christianity as having been co-opted from Roman pagnism. I guess I can't blame him for seeing things through a Christian lens, but I have to disagree here.

@toiletpaper @ninapaley I do think modern/post-modern understanding of "the dark ages" is also ridiculous.

Today I'm feeling particularly disgusted by how normalized it's become for adults to not be able to read or write.

@Flick I perhaps should have said "to read or write effectively." I've encountered so many horribly written signs, notices, etc. that just leave me bewildered.

@ninapaley @jmakesart The only one that comes to mind is the wonderfully progressive "Penis-haver! You make me feel like a front-hole bleeder!" By Shanix Twain, of course.

@ninapaley @jmakesart I can't believe that not only did I fail to see your reference to this same song in your post, I also misremembered the title.

@lowqualityfacts Um, "homeless?" It's [current year], we use the term "people of bodies of houselessness." No, I've never done anything to help them - why do you ask?

@toiletpaper @Ghislaine @qwerty The only part of North America to be inhabited by Europeans *before* Native Americans. Also... why don't the Icelanders count as indigenous? No people just sprung out of the ground...
