       @ruud @jeroen @spaceriker Don’t use Mastodon for private information, it’s a community sharing platform.- Toots are stored unencrypted incl. DM’s.- Toots are stored on a server you do not control (same as twitter)- Toots are synced to all servers where your messages and boosts of your messages are followed.- DM Toots are stored on your community server and on the server of your addressee.- DM Toots can be shared (by accident) by the addressee.

       @gmeThanks for your explanation of the broader #fediverse.I’m a 5 day newbie on Mastodon and experienced it as an introduction into the #fediverse.Maybe a friendlier explanation for newbies would be that Mastodon isn’t the whole #fediverse, but only a first step into to the broader #fediverse where your Mastodon identity could be used to boost, comment and reply on the other #fediverse applications that are now all integrated instead of isolated seperate applications :)

       @gmeFor now I’m exploring PeerTube videos and boosting, liking and replying to those videos from my Mastodon account directly.And I now get updates in MetaText (the Mastodon app I use) when a new video is published on the PeerTube accounts that I follow.This puts Twitter an YouTube in the shadow in 5 days for me 🙏

       @jonporobil @atomicpoetJon, there are 2 parts to this.1: the non-profit organization developing the Mastodon software.2: the server admin hosting and maintaining the mastodon instance you are registered on.Both are non-profit and rely on donations to do their respective part.
