Now, what makes this monitor particularly special? Well, according to https://15khz.net/ - it can take 15 KHz input, meaning that with the right adapter I should be able to plug it right into my Apple IIgs đSo we'll definitely be testing that later this month! Watch this space!

@lauren What do you think about using a password manager such as 1Password to store the passkeys, as opposed to the device itself? That way, even if the device is unlocked while stolen, the thief would still need to unlock the password manager. It does add a small amount of additional friction to the sign-in process, but only if you arenât already using a password manager. And as a bonus you donât need to generate separate passkeys for each device.

@lauren Agree, perhaps âpassword managerâ is an outdated term if it can store passkeys as well. But thatâs what Iâm used to calling them.Iâm thinking about a world in the future where passkeys have eliminated passwords entirely, how do we get around the issue of device theft that you brought up? The password manager feels like a good solution to that. It could be something in the cloud like 1password, or something entirely on-device, but in either case it provides another layer of security with protection in this scenario, as I understand it.

Oh hey remember back in March when I ordered an Apple Watch and got rather convincingly phished with a text message from UPS that had all my correct information (and had to replace my credit card)?Thread: https://oldbytes.space/@smallsco/110120954154425050UPS just disclosed that it was breached in Canada, with customer information being used in SMS phishing scams over the last year: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/ups-discloses-data-breach-after-exposed-customer-info-used-in-sms-phishing/

@thomholwerda Based on this post: https://beach.city/@vantablack/110594120842443355My understanding is that Meta will be pushing ads to users of itsâ app/instance, but other instances that federate with Meta will have the option of whether to allow itsâ ads or not (for more compensation to the admin). While Iâm not opposed to Meta being on the Fediverse in principle (Iâd love to be able to interact with my IRL friends and family from here), I personally draw the line at pushing ads to users of instances that federate with them, more specifically, to anyone who isnât using Metaâs own instance or software.Any instance that allows Metaâs ads to federate should be defederated.

Where weâre at: - The installer launches, but then immediately exits after selecting the language - Running âSYS D:â seems to work (C is the USB drive Iâm installing from), but the internal hard drive doesnât appear as a selectable option in the boot menuI suspect the system still needs an EFI partition on the internal drive - so perhaps attempting a Boot Camp install from Mac OS will work, but using FreeDOS instead of Windows đ

Itâs happening! The FreeDOS installer doesnât like the internal disk for some reason, but seems to have no problem with me installing it onto an SD cardâŠAlso it doesnât like if I partition and format the SD card itself, but if I use Balena Etcher to flash the install image onto the SD card and then install overtop of thatâŠwell, thatâs where weâre at right now! #RetroComputing #CursedRetroComputing #FreeDOS #Mac

Every time I see someone post with the hashtag #ShittyCameraChallenge Iâm reminded of the KBGear JamCam that I won in a contest back in 1999: http://tedfelix.com/JamCam/Itâs a real shitty camera. It could hold a whopping 8 pictures at 640x480 resolution and puts a red tint on everything.Anyway, hereâs a picture of the camera itself followed by a few pictures that I took with it back in the day.
