@futurebird @Alon Teach fifth graders algorithms in that „does exactly what’s instructed, not what’s implied” manner. Use their frustration as an intro into relevant linguistics - role of cultural context, cooperative principle, etc.There’s a good chance a neurodivergent kid will scream „I told you!” at someone though.

@futurebird @Peace This reminds me of Peter Watts’ “Firefall” in that “consciousness is not necessary for intelligence”.There’s a nitpick in this comparison that I feel compelled to point out though.Ants’ solutions are not more robust in general. They are more robust _for ants_. Both the problems and the solution emerge from a different (intermediate) substrate. Although in this specific thread, that’s kinda the point.

@kravietz People are forgetting that centralized platforms are blightful novelty on the internet.Mastodon is a good implementation of forums:- You get a place where a bunch of people hang out- They pull stuff they interact with from other such places, which federation automates- You can „visit” the places that caught your attention, which federation simplifiesIt also has all the issues the forums have, and that’s ok. Forums were still healthier than xitter or fb.

@futurebird IMO swappable sodium acetate inserts are easier to maintain. The failure mode is trivial too.No turning off those things, but you could make individual packs smaller and load multiple packs at once. The „initiate heating” pop is also quite satisfying.It stores less energy per unit of mass though.

@futurebird @carrideen Seems some people are never mature enough to realize that.I have a vice — I read self-published stories on sites like royalroad. And feeling like descriptions of women—and consequently men—must’ve been degrading to write is often why I drop popular stories.I.e. a male character would casually say something about women making me question whether belonging to the same gender as the author who wrote it is a good idea…
