       @simon @codinghorror @richardsheridan yes, AI is a broad area of research in computer science and most of the sub-areas have not focussed on Artificial General Intelligence. The science fiction use of the term is far from the bulk of the research in this space. There was a period where Neural Networks fell out of favour due to their black box nature. Now with deep learning advances they are all the rage again, but still limited in their knowledge representation and ability to reason.
