@lowqualityfacts Medicine will only go as far as to acknowledge this. However, the principle is more extensive. It has been found that double leg amputees can still walk at full height, but don't do so out of the fear of freaking out people around them.

@brosandprose The hyperloop was just a repurposed 1920, 1960, 1980...rehashed Popular Mechanics fever dream. It is physically impossible to build, even using modern materials. The vacuum is unsustainable. Musk may be manic about his work, but at the heart of it, he's really just a carnival barker with a good press agent. As soon as his lip starts front-running his brain, he's expendable, and guess what? He passed that milepost over a year ago.

@skykiss Actually, Milley is wrong in one regard. The enlisted oath does swear allegiance to the orders of the President. This needs to be changed. The Oath of Enlistment (for enlisted):"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."I should note that the officer's oath does not include that provision, and EVERY officer is expected to review an order against its Constitutionality before following it, or ordering it to be followed. Some officers actually take that part quite seriously. Some others, not so much.

@futurebird This was my take to @RealJournalismIt sets aside for the moment the question of her complicity with Trump.I understand she's had real turmoil in her shop, with several people quitting, her reacting by increasing everyone else's work load, and becoming overbearing. She's a newbie, and regardless of her allegiances, she just flat doesn't have the tools or the chops to pull off this large a case. She's clearly out of her league, and the District should recognize that in her performance. It's not just her, now. The whole District office will become tainted by her.I see why they wouldn't want to do this, but it JUST FLAT needs to be done!

@futurebird Next, we will move on to the airspeed velocity of the unladen swallow.A liter and a quart are roughly equal. A quart is equal to 4 cups, so a cup (8 oz) is roughly equal to a quarter of a liter, .25 liter, or 250 ml.

@futurebird I'm wondering when my "blocked" stack on YT is going to overflow. The content of which you speak is crap, for the most part. I can count the content providers I'll tolerate it from on one hand. (Dark Seas, and sites where I've got a good idea they're staying close to fact, and the voice isn't too distracting. There's the advent of background audio, too. It has spread from that AWFUL string waterfall on commercials, an acknowledged propaganda technique of de-focusing on the script, into some political pundit sites, and it DRIVES ME UP A WALL.

@Hellybootwader @RealJournalism I'm not angry at the protesters, per se. I am more than angry that they consider things totally outside the purvue of anything to do with the subject they are protesting as targets. That's a form of terrorism. What conceit! But "no damage done"! There is always damage, just that sometimes it can be fixed. They're angry? Fine. Meet my angry. Nothing is accomplished.I support the cause. I will jail them for the conduct.

@futurebird It depends on how you read the bible. I recall at USAFA our English professor had us read a biblical story...but it so happens it was the one about Rachel menstruating on the statues of idols, under her skirt. Turns out the bible also has some stand-up humor in it, too.Soooo, let's see how this pans out, teachers teaching from a book that won't even be (technically) allowed to be in the library.Rachel bleeding on the statues...gotta love it. Fundamentalists have had their heads screwed with, most since birth.

@stux We are within a decade of a fully printable, fairly functional repeating sidearm, the sole exception being the barrel (incl. forcing cone and chamber). At that point, the question becomes superfluous. It's a difficult question. There are some human dynamics that will always need equalizing, like the difference in defend-ability between males and females. Aside from the questions of sports and collecting, there will be instances where they will be needed for defense of person, and no close-in weapon can substitute. I answered no, but in reality...it depends. We can remove the war weapons now, though.
