       I just figured out I can stop Emacs from telling me each time it saves a file with:(setq save-silently t)And man, that wee change brings much needed calmness to my UI.I still know when the buffer is unsaved because of indications on the mode line. And I still get messages if anything failed when saving.Highly recommended.#emacs #productivity

       Thanks for creating emacs.ch, @louis . It's by far my favourite place on the internet.Such a nice place to hang out, read and learn. I wish we all one day could meet up IRL.

       Finally got up and running with PipeWire instead of PulseAudio. Not sad to see PA go one bit, still miss the days of ALSA.Can recommend Arch's documentation on PipeWire: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PipeWireNow, let's see if I need to debug PipeWire issues less than PulseAudio. Sound should just work, shouldn't it? 😄 #archlinux #linux #audio

       @fabiscafe I miss it because it was so simple. Once you had the right drivers loaded, the sound card always worked. Only one app at the time. Nice and easy.

       Well, then I'm happy for you @fabiscafe, that you now have an audio system that better suits your needs.For my use cases, ALSA gave me no problems. I could play all the games I wanted (Return to Castle Wolfenstein yay! the Loki games, not to mention spending ages to get Wine working with CnC Generals), and I never had the need to play sound from the browser and listen MP3s from XMMS or Amarok. In fact, I would count that as a feature, that Flash adds couldn't interrupt my flow when surfing the web. Good times....Looking at my Git history, I used ALSA at least until 2015 since I in 2014-11 added conf to play audio over HDMI.

       Are you constantly typing your SSH key password? By using ssh-agent [1], you'll reduce this to once a day, maximum. More likely, you'll do it once for the entire uptime of your machine.#unix #linux #ssh #security [1] https://www.man7.org/linux/man-pages/man1/ssh-agent.1.html

       Bought this gem on Amazon. The Userfriendly comic was a central part of my early Linux journey. The strip was a highlight of every issue of Linux Magazine 😀#linux #comics #secondhand

       @mms it's only 122 pages, so I guess not.For instance, I have not yet encountered my favourite "why I use Linux " strip where it ends with "okay, I admit, it's because of the screensavers".

       @VikingKong impressed you can be so open minded and make a switch, temporary or not, after so many years in the vim camp. Welcome thou shall be!

       @nickanderson @VikingKong I'm fairly fluent in vim, but I'm far away from a power user. Therefore, I'd be curious to know how good evil is for hardcover vim users coming over to Emacs?Is it "just as good as vim" editing/navigation wise, or is it like Emacs mode in IntelliJ IDEA, "much better than the defaults, but still miles away from the real thing"?#emacs #vim

       It was pretty cold today, -28°C, but the weather and nature were spectacular and the tracks were great, giving me an amazing day, skiing from the north to the south end of the forest.Grateful, happy and knackered.#skiing #crosscountryski #norway

       @louis @haiku looks awesome! Been following Haiku for years, cheering on the sidelines by it never actually trying it out. Been happy enough with Linux and OpenBSD.

       I know I'll get more geek points if I write Java code like:pConf.getProfiles().forEach(    p -> mProfileURIMap.put(p.getId(), p.getURI()));But I still think nothing beats a good old loop:for (ProfileConf profileConf : pConf.getProfiles()) {  mProfileURIMap.put(profileConf.getId(), profileConf.getURI());}#java #coding
