#introductionI am Sir Vertalot.I like the gruvbox colour scheme (soft-light), linguistics, anonymity (hah), and music (listening).I like the idea of programming and know some things about it, but I do not actually program. I seek to change this.I am competetive but do not compete, and I create but am not creative.I dislike most social media, but here seems to lack most of the things I dislike, like celebrity culture.Using this site is part of my desire to change myself for the better.

Oh, and if anyone has an image of a slightly angry looking helicopter I could use as an avater I would be very glad if you could give me it ;p(vertalot is from the Russian вертолёт, meaning "helicopter")

@wizzwizz4 It depends on what kind of news. For general news I agree, but for what's going on in smaller communities it's sometimes the only option.

@Matter >compile-on-bootOf course, I am running my entire system using JIT.@BadAtNames TCC is cheating, naturally, but I'm more interested in how quickly TCC would compile linux on a threadripper.

@wizzwizz4 Maybe have something like using software instead of services, and the freedom that grants a person who does that.

Are there any projects specifying a practical subset of web standards to use in websites and implement in browsers etc?

The fact software stuff is so public in general compared to other disciplines / industries, (especially consider open source stuff) lets me focus better on the good and the bad parts of the the society that's evolved around it.

Most conversation in this stuff and related communities feels too transactional. How to find people to just talk to?

Does anyone use a plain git repo with different branches for different machines/environments in general? Seems like a really obvious solution but I usually hear people talk about doing something else with e.g. gnu stow.

I am dangerously close to writing the entirety of /usr/share/X11/xkb from scratch. Did you know that the russian "phonetic" variant assigns keys differently to the default variant? In doing so, keybindings like ctrl+m are preserved – but only in certain programs!– which probably means you have to have explicit support for this. Notably, the problem this solves with e.g. xfwm keybindings is not solved in terminal programs (that I've tested), though it is on the command line itself.

>IPv4, the old version of the Internet Protocol, or by IPv6, the current standard of the protocol. This is the kind of optimism I like from wikipedia.
