@ActionRetro I've heard a lot about BeOS over the years (though BeOS itself was before my time π
) and now I have the urge to install Haiku (the successor of BeOS) in a virtual machine after watching this. π€

@ActionRetro Thatβs cool! I considered running it on a Dell laptop I had, though I had issues getting FreeBSD to work with the Wi-Fi drivers even after much playing around, and, at least at the time, Haiku used FreeBSD Wi-Fi drivers. That being said, I do have a small army of spare PCs that I may also want to put it on if I were to put it on bare metal.

I haven't been able to get Linux to install on an SD card (doesn't like booting from F2FS for some reason) on this eeePC, but it can run #FreeDOS !The monitor has inverted colors, so I'm not particularly interested in running a GUI on this thing, so I was hoping to use it as a command line-focused writing laptop. Well, FreeDOS probably does meet my needs for this thing. π

If anyone has a recommendation for a computer that would be of a similar form factor of the #raspberrypi 400, I'd love to know.I like the idea of the Raspberry Pi 400, but a track record of bad behavior from the fediverse presence has me reconsider my trust in the entire organization.

At #vcfmw18 , I will likely have my eeePC with #NetBSD on me.I have no booth. Only a late 2000s netbook running its most compatible OS. π΄

So I figured out how to get #NetBSD working nice and fine on my #ThinkPad x220. It wasn't suspending correctly when I shut the lid.https://www.netbsd.org/docs/guide/en/chap-power.htmlTurns out the answer was in the docs. π

Also I didn't know underclocking was so easy in NetBSD.Currently my laptop, while off power, runs at 1.2 GHz. That's perfectly fine by me because the whole 2.5 GHz makes it loud and sap up too much power.I'm sure other OSes have features like this. If there were similar easy underclocking for Linux, that'd probably do wonders for my Pavillion.
