The right to property is, in essence, the right to hoard: the right to deny food to the hungry, land to the landless, shelter to the homeless, all while holding surplus yourself. >>>

In a society of free equals, who would enforce such rights? Obviously, no one. Without state oppression, there can be no property. A libertarian society needs no #Bitcoin; it needs no money. It is self-evidently a society in which everything, including both surplus and want, is shared.

This is wrong, too: "There is no good reason why such proprietary and highly valuable information should be recorded publicly"There is. It would wipe out corruption. But blockchain isn't needed, only transparency.https://amp.theguardian.com/technology/2018/oct/15/blockchain-democracy-decentralisation-bitcoin-price-cryptocurrencies?__twitter_impression=true

"The discomfort of calling Westminster either the Imperial Parliament (of the past) or indeed the English Parliament (of the future?) points to the structural dysfunction that Brexit is newly and ruthlessly exposing" - @PeterArnottGlas https://playwrightinthecages.blogspot.com/2018/10/taking-cure.html

@CoinneachNo; and I don't really plan ever to be fully self sufficient. I'm aiming to be able to live comfortably on a very small monetary income. Apart from capital spend (which, as you can see, I'm still doing), I've pretty much succeeded.

@valeraukoIt has been - past tense - a good place to live, to study, and to work. The decline into a right wing dystopia just bewilders me - I wouldn't have believed it could happen so fast. I hope that Scotland can escape, but I really worry for friends in England and Wales.

@polychromeHah, I'm trying to decide whether to buy myself a new smartphone or a new pocket knife. My smartphone is now seriously broken and not repairable, but I think I'm going to buy a knife.

@NinjatrappeurComplicated. There is a tradition of carrying a small dagger (sgian dubh - "black knife") in your sock, and many people still do on formal occasions. But apart from that, I don't know of a specifically Scottish knife tradition.

@nev Earth closets are not a big deal. They're easy to build and easy to maintain, and don't smell nearly as much as you'd think. For the rest, move out of cities and get a woodstove.
