So I've actually been planning to make the toadstool folk for awhile, and every time I had a color of minky out I'd cut a square of it, and I bought a couple yards of white expressly to make the bodies. And then I didn't get started on actually sewing them, and then the whole Shopify debacle happened, and I was like "nope, not gonna have time" and then I decided to try making them nine-to-a-hoop instead of the larger four-to and, welp.You can see the octo and pumpkin influence in the colors.

I'm shooting for at least ten colors, probably twelve, which will give me ~100 toadstools. Maybe all those colors if I can get there, but cutting things out will get hard on my RSI after awhile.I am not actually sure how many kids I serve every year beyond "a lot" (I should get one of those little clicker counter thingies) but I also have candy as a backup.

I need to get a slide scanner and get proper scans of Dad's slides, but awhile back I took some pictures of a few of them on the slide sorter. This is probably my namesake.When Mom and Dad were choosing names for their baby-to-be, Dad suggested "Karen" and that was what they settled on, obviously. After I was born, Mom and I were introduced to a friend of Dad's who said "oh, after Karen so-and-so?" and Mom was like "who?" and the friend went, "One of [Dad]'s old girlfriends." So... yeah.

I have only gone through a few but Dad was a pretty avid photographer and there are a ton of pictures of SoCal, mostly around San Diego, in the early 60's.

Pro tip: Mastodon, at least (can't speak to other fedi apps) has a "Note" field on accounts where you can put things that appear only for you.I just put "https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1588187757431558144" in the field for @atrupar so that later on when we're deluged by fake journo accounts I can look at that one and go "okay, Aaron actually confirmed that one" even if he's never added any other verification to his bio.

In other walled-garden news, I've been pestering the Github folks to put RSS feeds on Discussions and whatnot because I hate all the email notifications, and they finally did it.It's not discoverable and you can only get it for the start-of-thread post, and only for discussions and not issues, so I hope they didn't hang the mission-accomplished banner just yet.
