@alexelcu Not sure if “ray tracing” is exactly the same idea as my approach (but I guess it is, or similar) – and figuring out all the bugs with recognizing and accounting for the edge patterns in my solution took most of my day.(while I also did day 9 and 11 today relatively quickly as I was catching up with the puzzles after being away for a few days…)So yeah, day 10 part 2 killed me a bit inside.

@alexelcu 👍 I realized what you meant later. Still, I didn’t know that “ray casting” is an actual named approach to figuring out which parts are inside enclosed shape. But I pretty much came up with that idea myself, so implemented a very similar thing.

@futurebird Around ~130 kWh of electric energy per month.Poland, 2 people in a flat apartment in a city. Heating, hot water, and gas for cooking come separately (and I’ve no idea how much energy we use in those).

@BrodieOnLinux Regarding 8:45 – that’s not how rustc_codegen_gcc works. It never produces any C – it compiles Rust directly to machine code using GCC backend (libgccjit specifically), so basically swaps LLVM for GCC in rustc, with no C intermediary. You might be thinking of mrustc (which did translate Rust to C so that you could use a C compiler with it), or rustc_codegen_clr (whose goal is to compile Rust to .NET, but apparently has C output too).
