@ConorMahood One tip that can work well is to ask a player "What is your character afraid will happen here?"Not only does it ground the player in their character's perspective, it actually gets them to volunteer what sort of thing would actually unsettle them. Useful info to have on hand!Your players essentially signpost the sort of horror concepts they're interested in exploring and what would be effective on them.

One problem with listening to a lot of music with sampling is sometimes you'll hear a tiny bit of a jazz track (e.g. 0:17-0:21 on Roland Kirk's "Black Mystery Has Been Revealed") and you'll know—you'll KNOW—that you know it from somewhere.And WhoSampled doesn't have it, whatever it is.And you want to abandon everything you're doing until find, like, the Ninja Tune DJ mix that probably had it.
