Is there a name for this thing?Like, there's this thing where when someone that's treated as inherently problematic is having an argument with someone, they will be accused of some minor infraction or failing, that may or may not be valid, but is at best tangentially related to the argument. This callout then serves as a trap where the "problematic" person's character is undermined regardless of how they respond. If they do not apologise, it is added to the list of how they are problematic. If they do take responsibility, they will not be forgiven, and they can no longer deny that they are a person who does problematic things and calls into question whether they should be tolerated at all.I would really like to find a name to quickly describe this. Preferably one that isn't identity-specific.This is something that transmisogyny exempt people do to trans women all the time, but I've also heard about and personally witnessed it happening to black women and femmes on many occasions, and I'd really like to be able to name the behaviour without having to explain the dynamics involved every time.

This tactic is also very often combined with dogpiling when the argument takes place on social media or in a large venue, but in my experience a large audience is not required for it to be used.

Fascist billionaire using his fortune to organize the social murder of trans people in the US says trans daughter won't talk to him.Weird. Must be the woke mind virus.

Ever seen an entire line of cops turn their body cams off in formation, take an aggressive, violent and intentionally provocative action against protestors who were just standing there, then again uniformly take a step back and turn their body cams on to see if anyone takes the bait?Turning off body cams to avoid accountability and turning them on when to further criminalize people? It's not just some bad apples who learned to game a loophole. They drill this shit. This is what the body cams were purchased for.

@mayintoronto @futurebird @floatybirb @liferstate Can we name the ant Tifa? Like, I feel if it's going to be made illegal to use non-corporate social media in the near future to protect the children or whatever, we should probably have a Giant Ant Tifa.

@notjustbikes They claim to be working on it now that they've been thoroughly embarrassed. Maybe shoot some B-roll and some initial impressions, but I say wait until they open the Eglinton Crosstown (supposedly the TTC's internal target date is Feb 8) to see if they've learned any lessons. The interesting part of this story IMO, if they manage to get their act together, is that public pressure and Torontonians no longer just putting up with slow, heavily compromised transit managed to get the goods. That change for the better is possible if people demand it. And if they can't get their act together, why not and what is it actually going to take? And either way, what does this mean for the rest of the system, particularly the streetcar network and future projects.
