@fu I don't know an answer for 1, but I do for 2.When you go to the photo in the gallery, there's an edit button above it. On the edit screen the image description/alt-text is entered in the "Caption" field.Any time you share the image, anything put in there will be used as alt-text. Though I believe it doesn't show the alt-text in the bb-code when you do so.

@BZBrainz I investigated each of these, block/defederate the whole server: poa.st, cawfee.club, detroitriotcity.com, wolfgirl.barEach of them have open hate speech from the admins and one even permits nazis.Share this with your server admins to let them know you want them defederated.#fediblock

@pernia I definitely get it, posting name, address, and phone number made it a liability for them. Legally you report them to their local authorities, and if the authorities do nothing then you're liable for potential lawsuits.Best to just leave it at the reason and not providing personal information beyond maybe just name and receipts.

99% of the time "Judeo-Christian" is antisemitic. And yes, I will absolutely elaborate on this if asked.

@JoshuaACNewman @whalecoiner @cstross @RuthFlaherty that's where I stand, vampires and metaphysics are beholden to human law.Vampires can't enter a place where people live without an invite from the people who live there. I don't think it relates at all to ownership or law in that respect.But... fun thing to consider is can vampires entire an office space of a programming company in crunch time without an invite from a programmer?

@whalecoiner I believe the typical terms are any place you live in, so hotels/airbnb typically won't count because they're just places you're visiting. The office building mention was because during crunch time programmers often end up practically living at the office for weeks. It basically raises the question of what qualifies as someone "living there" for the terms.@cstross fantastic question? Does it differ if you're home is a living entity itself? I think it may count because this kind of myth typically derives off of the "You have to invite the devil in" Christian logic that is typically applied to possessions as well... and technically entering Baba Yaga's hut would count as a possession I think?@RuthFlaherty And there's the question of what qualifies as life for the vampire curse? And then, what are the boundaries? It might mean the vampire just can't enter the server room?@JoshuaACNewman

@fnordius @whalecoiner @cstross @RuthFlaherty ah, a favorite of mine, the affably evil vampire who is a complete stickler to intense rules of hospitality.

@cstross @helenczerski I know in the US we have oversized vehicles because we ended up putting tighter regulations on smaller vehicles (some poorly implemented farm exception)

@admins I'm curious for feedback about other admin's setups. I know the default choice is apache, but how many are like me running nginx + php-fpm?I'm curious what tips and tricks people have figured out? Has anyone settled on a good stable caching config? (Last time I set up caching I tried to limit it to just static files and images, but it somehow cached some of the regular pages it seems wondering if maybe one of those css or javascript files is actually dynamic?)As it stands my setup is two nginx webservers behind an nginx load balancer, both running php-fpm, a shared nfs media storage directory, memcached on the database server for php sessions.

@pippin You probably never will with a single instance. I may never reach the point of it being a problem, I was just having some performance issues early on, mostly due to available memory for the database.

@lispi314 @blacklight it's definitely wildly different, and part of the reason I threw assembly as a comment in there too.You could write a whole paper on the inherit performance problems in Python, it's a language whose first and foremost goal is readability and ease, it makes ALOT of compromises for that. For one, CPython is interpreted, not compiled. This makes a drastic reduction in performance (PyPy uses JIT and for heavier applications ends up drastically faster than CPython). The fact that it uses heap memory and dynamic types takes some performance hits as well. And it's abstracted to hell and back, which makes it super easy... but super inefficient. At your mention of it, I took one look at CommonLISP and definitely said I don't give enough of a shit to learn that lol.

@i_lost_my_bagel ownership by a major web monopoly that can break browsers that don't follow it's rules?

@i_lost_my_bagel No good reasons, but there are some shitty reasons:* Many websites build entirely for Chrome (since Safari and Firefox are the only browsers not built on Chrome), so every once in a while pages don't work right* Some web extensions are Chrome ecosystem only

Just recently had to break it down in a group because it's been flaring up, figured a post would be nice. This may seem like a Jewish specific topic, but it is important for non-Jews to know as well.Zionism vs Anti-Zionism.First of all, if you're a non-Jew it's best to identify with neither as for non-Jews is almost always antisemitic. (And yes I mean both). This is a one of the biggest bones of contention in the Jewish community and is absolutely a loud argument right now due to current events. Worse yet, it's generally so because of a mix of misunderstandings and extremism.ZionismOriginally this was the belief that the only way Jews could find some stability and safety would be to form a Jewish state. Once the state was formed, this turned into rabid support for Israel. For the milder of them, it basically boils down to patriotism... for the extremes it's nationalismThe loudest and most well represented of Zionists, however, believe basically that any criticism of Israel is inherently antisemitic, even by fellow Jews.(How can this be antisemitic for non-jews? Short answer without derailing: Nazis are often Zionist)Anti-ZionismOriginally this was opposition to the creation of modern Israel, though each person had their own wildly varying reasons. After the creation, many Anti-Zionists became Zionists. For the rest it mostly transformed into minimizing and addressing the damages caused by the creation of the state (ie. the occupation of Palestine). Many do dream of the potential of dismantling the state, but don't see it as feasible because creating a new humanitarian crisis to solve another isn't an acceptable solution. They're generally painted by Zionists as if they want to abruptly end the state without addressing the crisis it would cause. (As such even mild Zionists often believe Anti-Zionism to be inherently antisemitic)(Non-Jews can criticize Israel, but being/identifying-as Anti-Zionist is pretty much reserved for Jews; the exception being victims of Israel)#IsraelHamasWar #Israel #Zionism #AntiZionism #AntiZionismIsNotAntisemitism #Hamas #Judaism

Basic gist: the NSA, FBI, etc are now actively targeting anyone expressing leftist sentiments or even just being pro-trans rights even if they haven't committed a crime. It directs them to "investigate, prosecute, and disrupt", again regardless of whether we've committed a crime.truthout.org/articles/national…
