@itnewsbot Wild, as it appears that *even some officially-EOL models* have received a firmware update hard-disabling third-party ink cartridges.

@arstechnica The legendary chaos continues. From 2019, ARS: "We are 91 days into the year, and so far, Google is racking up an unprecedented body count. If we just take the official shutdown dates that have already occurred in 2019, a Google-branded product, feature, or service has died, on average, about every nine days."

@arstechnica As commented: "Well damn. Another story about a) people being scum, b) misuse of technology by said people, c) major companies only getting worried when deep-pocketed people get involved and d) the usual game of pass-the-liability-parcel.Checks calendarYeah, thought so. Another day ending in a 'y'."

@arstechnica Well, can those funds be returned, then? As they apparently were not used.

@hn100 If by "address" you mean an IP-address and TCP-port combination, then the answer is "when they do not share a remote address". ie: a TCP connection is identified by the four-way combination of local-IP-address, local-TCP-port, remote-IP-address, remote-TCP-port.

@mjg59 That's spectacularly "special" program logic, and not in a good way.

@mjg59 Another superbly daft bit in there too re the earlier model"The M365 scooters that Bird originally deployed did have numeric serial numbers, but they were 6 characters of type code followed by a / followed by the actual serial number - the number of type codes was very constrained and atoi() would terminate at the / so this was still not a large keyspace"...to put it mildly!

Quote from the FORTRAN manual for Xerox computers:"The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable PI can be given that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant. This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change."

@mjg59 In adfition:The “Create a recovery drive” functionality is not supported in the updates released on or after May 9, 2023, and cannot be used to restore devices with revocation enabled. We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

A C compiler in 512 bytes:https://xorvoid.com/sectorc.html"Hashes are perhaps the holy-grail of computer-science. With a good hash, we can just side-step all the hard problems by trading them for an even harder problem (hash collisions), and then we just ignore that harder problem. Brilliant. (sticks fingers in ears)"

@vees I've found that the 2017 Surface Air plus the optional Surface keyboard/cover is *almost* that, for me. The only problem is that the glossy screen is too reflective when outdoors in Summer.

@chris @pglpm @pluralistic @aral @strypey @hisham_hm @aperezdc Shame they didn't use the term "Open Internet" instead of "Free Internet". The latter is often misinterpreted by those outside tech policy circles.
