@aral Earlier this summer, I sought out a COVID booster vaccine in my US town. I had summer travel plans (flying to my mom's memorial) and wanted to up my immunity. I was turned down by three pharmacies. A fourth didn't even have boosters available. I do not meet the eligibility requirements. I am not immunocompromised (yet), and I am not 65+ years old. I have not heard of any COVID vaccine supply shortages in my area. All those vaccines sitting on a shelf that will be obsolete in a few weeks when the new vaccines become available. I could have received one of those vaccines before I traveled through 4 airports that were so crowded I don't think they even comply with fire department occupancy limits. Instead, I traveled with anxiety and limited immunity because some bureaucrat decided to impose arbitrary limits on vaccine access. I wore a good mask, didn't eat on any of my flights for fear of taking it off, and crossed my fingers. I got lucky and avoided COVID. My brother-in-law didn't mask and caught COVID on the way home. My younger sister and her husband caught COVID from the charitable act of giving friends a ride from the airport. In the US, no one is clamoring for COVID shots. Why not let those of us who face elevated risk of COVID exposure self-diagnose our personal vaccine needs?I will get the new COVID booster as soon as I can. #COVIDIsNotOver #MaskUp #COVIDVaccine

@futurebird I feel the same way about paper towel commercials that feature liquid spills spreading toward an object or table edge and then a hand with a paper towel comes to rescue but wipes IN THE DIRECTION OF THE OBJECT OR TABLE EDGE. I am certain they do this to cause alarm for the viewer. I find it distasteful and think poorly of the product. A big fail for them. I am getting agitated just writing about it. #FuckBountyPaperTowels

@dogzilla Well, Mango Mussolini's new sidekick "Couch Fucker" has said publicly that he would not have certified the election in 2020 and will not publicly admit that his puppet master lost the last election. That was the first step. I have read that some of the fake electors are still in place as electors in some states, and some have even been promoted to election boards. That is another step. Rethuglicans have relentlessly suppressed votes in swing states, including massive voter role purges and passed new regulations requiring mandatory hand counts and lowering the threshold to challenge ballot validity. That is step three. I can go on. The evidence that the Convicted Felon Dotard will attempt to overturn the election is squarely in front of us. We can choose to "believe" it or not. @stux They aren't hauling shit!Most of them are brand new and shiny, without a bit of dirt on them. I laugh when I'm behind an F150 truck and the driver slows way down to gingerly navigate a speed bump. The trucks that are used for hauling are dragging around a 30-foot (9-meter) trailer with a full kitchen and washer dryer for, you know, "camping" at the state park. It's disgusting.

@futurebird Yesterday, I read about a "progressive" organization called Fuse Washington. They publish a progressive voters guide so I went to their website. What did I find? A "follow us on Twitter" blue bird icon. I immediately clicked the contact us button and chastised them for not only remaining on that trash platform, but promoting it on their website. I told them there is no way a so-called progressive organization should be enabling a certified fascist Trump supporter. It's a new hobby of mine, I guess. Oh, and I told them they should be on Mastodon, and to pop me a line when they get here so I can follow them.

Welp. Not that we were holding our breath anyway, but I think we can kiss reasonable egg prices good-bye for the foreseeable future. I photographed this sign affixed to the egg cooler at the Bellingham, WA Winco grocery store this morning. You know what? I only eat 1 or two eggs during a normal week, so I think I'll just skip eggs altogether for a while. By the way, one dozen large, free range eggs cost $4.65 today, about a dollar more than we usually pay. @WmShakesp3are I think $4.65 is within the range of reasonable, but Winco obviously thinks its customers will think the price is high. I was pretty shocked to see $7 dozens in California though. That seems within the realm of predatory price-gouging, and they weren't even apologizing for it or trying to make excuses. Winco is an employee-owned regional chain whereas the store in California that had $7 eggs is part of a monopolistic mega chain. Go figure. Those "economies of scale" the monopolists claim will bring prices down never seem to pan out, do they?

@stux I think they also forget what it was like when they were trying to learn Twitter or Facebook or TikTok. Everything has a learning curve. Most will accept the challenge of learning a new platform if their friends or famous people are going there. I didn't use Twitter for years because back when tweets were limited to 140 characters (?) the abbreviations and initialisms looked like gibberish to me. Eventually, I got the hang of it. When I deleted my Twitter account and came here, I had to get the hang of Mastodon, too. Learning can be uncomfortable.

My server has suspended someone I like to follow, is unwilling to block Threads, and has an admin that has a spotty record of responsiveness to my communications in the past. I am looking for a server:- outside the US (I live in the US but don't trust the US)- that primarily uses the English language- domiciled in a jurisdiction with strong digital privacy laws and decent civil rights protections- Over 1,000 active users- Has been running with a good reputation for least a few yearsI don't want to join Mastodon.social or mstdn.social.
