In contrast, a tax collector or government bureaucrat are neither producers or multipliers.

@freemo Jewish people also follow the same deity, Yahweh. (As opposed to, say, Thor, or the Hindu Vishna, Brahma, etc). Effectively they are different sects or branches of the same religion.

@trinsec email is a federated service, with many small players and a few big ones, eg Gmail, Hotmail/Live/Outlook, etc.The fediverse is federated social media, where even the largest are small. If Twitter supported ActivityPub - i.e. accounts can directly follow twitter accounts and vice-versa that would be good.It would also be the largest instance by a long way.

@eriner is it the same deficiencies as email? Distributed identity is hard to get momentum. Stack Overflow shut down their OpenID after 10 years as hardly anyone used it. https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/307647/support-for-openid-ended-on-july-25-2018And Microsoft CardSpace (.Net 3.5 era) never even really got started.

@freemo @cr well, qoto doesn't have IPv6 at all. Normal DNS has only an A record for qoto.org (no AAAA).However, I use DNS64, so get back a synthetic NAT64 AAAA address (starting with 64:...). A "not proper" IPv6 address.To add IPv6 you either need a hoster that provides it, or put a CDN in front (although as has been pointed out to me that means you need to also trust your CDN as well as your hoster, e.g. for HTTPS security).

@freemo First of all, thanks for all your hard work running qoto.Second, I know it really sucks; it annoys me that qoto.org is on the ban list of some tabletop gaming servers, for no reason listed (other than they copied it from elsewhere).But you’ve got to learn to only worry about the things you can control, otherwise you’ll just drive yourself into depression.So what if this Rochko guy is being an arse. People are free to do what they want. I know they are giving in to someone’s agenda, but maybe from their point of view they are just afraid (of reputation). Qoto will survive, despite.And I’m not sure if succumbing to Godwin’s law is helpful. I doubt the intention is to support them; the motivation is more likely fear … maybe a more accurate headline “Rochko succumbs to demands out of fear” ? (rather than support)I mean if someone points a gun at me in the street and demands my wallet, if I give it to them it doesn’t mean I support theft. (Even if it turns out to be a fake gun).

@freemo signing up just to compare is okay, but I'm not signing up to #threads because the entire point of federation is so that you don't need a separate account everywhere. (Once they actually enable federation)As for the commotion it seems weird and a lack of understanding what federation means.Like what does it matter if you are using a small/your own email server if Gmail joins the email system.They aren't going to start sending you spam (that would get them blocked).But it does mean you can now send messages to and from people you know on that system, with no down sides.Having the #Freedom for each person to choose if they want an ad free small server, or a big player that might have a slicker interface/search (but has adverts), while still being able to communicate with each other is a good thing.
