@aral @dat_ecosystem dat ecosystem has nothing to do with tether though. There are ~20 projects building on top of dat at the moment and holepunch is just one of them. Every project maintains some of the dat stack modules. It is all open source and we monitor it and it can all be forked any time.People are working on a rust implementatjin as well wholich is not on par, but kinda here here.We are happy to see that the holepunch company os giving back by maintaining and contributing to dat

@aral how about capitalism as rule by the money printing people?Some have less, some have more capital to rule more or less, but it is all dwarfed by the money printers - the money printers makes all the billionaires. They dont earn that money, they get it from the printers and friends of printers.That is the defining characteristic of capitalism

Today I stumbled upon a very intersting (but also lengthy) blog post discussing currencies (crypto and fiat).Thought provoking.I definitely recommend reading it.If anyone has any opinions on what is being said I'd be interested to hear them.I'm not entirely sure what to make of the article, but points out a lot of interesting things which might be very relevant now that trump was elected.https://dergigi.com/2022/11/19/dear-crypto-fiat-bros/

@cwebber Why give them soooooo much space?Why talk soooo much about bluesky?Did they pay you for it?I havent seen you do this for other platforms, especially when mastodon and even nostr exist that are way more decentralized. It seems kinda weird and unexpected 🤷

@rauschma @SocketSecurity Nobody does.This is capitalism.All it needs is a "reasonable line of arguing" (RLOA) for the capitalists to print money.A startup with a reasonable pitch and a team with reasonable background is such a RLOA, which allows the Capitalists (e.g. VCs) who are defined by having access to the money printer, to create money and pay everyone, but especially themselves.Thats how you get billionaires.Nobody has an incentive to stop this.Courts cant because of RLOA

@Snoro Bitcoin might help.Bitcoin ends all money printing.Bitcoin will never have more than 21 Million.If you want to fund militarism, you have to ask the people to fund it and if they dont, you are out of luck.No more money printing to pay for militarism.If we dont switch to bitcoin or something alike, capitalists will continue to abuse the money printers to fund militarism to the detriment of all of us

@strypey Self hosting becomes trivial when you use peer to peer with proper holepunching.Of curse it is non-trivial and hard when the technology isnt fitting the task. The solution is already out there, but many people chose to ignore it.🤷♀️

@ricci You might want to explore nostr.Its the most decentralized social network on the planet. It got the architecture right.Not instances with instante operators, but interchangable relays. Users own their account by using keypairs they control instead of email/passwords the instance admins control.Without this criticial designs decision, decentralization wont work.

Some regional currency experiments exist since forever, but they dont scale and dont work.Also this doesn't have too much to do with the military and more with alternative currencies are centralized too and if they did scale, would just end up as the same kind of system, which isnt helpful

@cy @vnikolov @benroyce @GhostOnTheHalfShell @gabbywheels @StillIRise1963 Its not really true.You can literally do all your business however you want and then on "tax day", you sell whatever you used to buy the amount of currency in the form you need to pay your taxes.For example, you could get paid in bitcoin or buy in bitcoin and do your accounting and at the end of the month, you sell the amount of bitcoin you need at whatever market rate to buy the exact amount needed to pay your taxes

Capitalists are different here and we have to end this 🙂

@davepeck @davew @brentsimmons Time will tell.For now, activity pub isn't better than email and we all know how that went.Yes in theory (technically), one can self host, but in practice, email is gmail & co.People lose their accounts because mismanaged or other unexpected instance shutdowns all the time ...and mastodon.social is already large and growing.RSS/Atom or rather JSON Feed on the other hand lends itself to peer to peer by design 🙂
