@jk yup! It's great! I never feel stress about my Linux machines. Something doesn't work, I can likely figure out how to resolve it. I am never helpless. And when I do feel like nothing I try works. I can toot for help and get 100 new suggestions from other kind Linux folk :)

I am trying to think of a setup where I can still write digitally but away from my computer / the distractions it brings?Like I know I could go full #retrocomputing but I am curious?I find it difficult to write for #gemini when at my desktop.

When I /really/ need to unplug my #fountainpen and a pad helps. And I guess I could use my old laptop with a desktop environment-less #linux install...but it has maybe the worst keyboard ever created.I tried just typing on my phone but aggravated my RSI

Yo, wtf are these ebay prices on some of these retro pcs?! I can get a T460s (my current WORK MACHINE) for literally $150 bucks right now... this is wild.I honestly might do that though, the T460s was killer and is only limited when doing large compiles because it's just a 4 core laptop.... #linux #thinkpad #retrocomputing

Just in case there isn't room for nuance. I understand the difference between old and new tech. A 6 year old chinese made laptop targeting business will have literally an insane number of supply relative to a late 80s to mid 90s portable

@boilingsteam a lot of comments to read but y'all are nuts. The PSP didn't penetrate North America the way Nintendo handhelds did. But the PSP was all around better than the DS to the point Internet comics and videos were clowning on it where the PSP was this untouchable giant.Sont fumbled it. IMHO but the DS wasn't good until the 3DS which was still unpowered. The only hesitation I had was the Switch like DESTROYED the handheld market. But I think the PSP helped pave the way

@calculsoberic something else (while I run KDE on my personal machine) I typically run just X11 with i3 on my development and work machines and is my ideal environment to work in.Technically not a desktop environment as it's barely even a desktop. I do everything else through the command line.

@calculsoberic yeah I don't recommend it for general computer usage. But for working / programming it's SUCH a good workflow. Says out of the way, and is FAST.At home I use KDE, but I've "mocked" it into a pseudo i3 setup by still using dmenu for launching programs. removing any application launcher in the bottom menubar. And added equivalent keybinds for workspaces and window tiling. But it's manual.https://senders.io/blog/2020-12-17/
