Hit <ctrl-t> in a #linux terminal today and sighed loudly enough that my coworker thought I was in physical not spiritual pain. #freebsd

Found this in my #retrocomputing lot today. Its super dirty right now and is soaking in a bath. I might hit it with a LIGHT peroxide bath as the weird squishy plastics have some amount of yellowing (this is a picture from https://www.atarimagazines.com/st-log/issue27/109_1_ST_NEWS_STOP_SUFFERING_FROM_PAC-MAN_BLISTERS.php)

@paradroyd it’s so nice and clicks too. Tomorrow I’ll give it a short bath.

Found a late 80s c64 collection with manuals, boxes and magazines still intact. Years of RUN, COMPUTE! and Compute's Gazette to enjoy and read. 3 lonely computer shoppers appeared at the bottom of the boxes from 86/87. @textfiles do you need Sep 86, May 87 and June 87?

I mean … is #coffee happiness? It’s gotta be adjacent to happiness at a minimum.

Looking for a #retrocomputing recommendation for a small home office "dust filter" for the air here. During winter in #newmexico the lack of ANY humidity really lets the dust buildup and its getting out of hand. My central air system filter is swapped out every 3 months but for my home office I think I need a bit more filtration.Using online recommendations via Amazon, eBay and Google is pretty much useless and full of ads so am looking for a recommendation from actual factual humans. As far as I am aware, ChatGPT doesn't need to breathe clean air.

Huh ... Is the Groucho Emoji not actually a default for everyone and its only on my iPhone? I just tried to find it to post something and I couldn't find it. 🥸 Had to go copy paste it from an external website.

@feld Interesting, in Firefox on Linux its not there. I thought these emoji came from the server side?

Somehow I hallucinated that UNAME_r variables and friends was available on #Linux this week trying to hack around a vendor package. I was dissapointed that it hadn't made it over from #FreeBSD land.https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=uname&sektion=3&n=1

I finally realized why the madness of LLM output always makes me look sideways at it: their behavior is basically the same as Friend @Computer down in Alpha Complex. It never occurred to me that an RPG would have inoculated me against so ouch raging nonsense.

Ereaders and PDF files just don’t give you the satisfaction of knowing that there was a lineage of people for decades that held this book in their hand and skimmed the pages for knowledge. #libraries

In the "filesystems and I/O" portion of my Operating Systems course in college today. Brought some floppy disks in to help understanding storage system history and the archaic methods for data organization: tracks, sectors, partitions, etc.I was surprised at how much the disks were investigated and examined by the students and how much curiosity was expressed. We almost had to suppress questions to get to the course material.I think this is instructive. I'll try and incorporate some kind of tactile thing this spring when I'm teaching.#retrocomputing #teaching

Explaining: load "*",8,1 to students I think broke their brains.Showing them the printed out directory listing that came with one disk, priceless.Explaining read-write notches and flipping disks over to gain a "Free" disk.#retrocomputing

If I completely misconfigure a self-signed SSL certificate enough for a mail server, only I can login to send email. That's #secure right? Am I doing #infosec right? :mail_smirk:
