I’m not a tech person and never really thought about ANY of this prior to Elon musk buying twitter a year ago, but popping onto baby bluesky has highlighted for me just how dynamic and mature mastodon actually is. It gets a LOT of criticism and omission from mainstream journos, but the reality is that mastodon is a fascinating and very user friendly global group project, and deserves some credit for what it has, not just (appropriate and important) criticism of what it lacks

All that said, I’d love to see masto continue to evolve in ways that make joining (and starting instances) much easier for regular people, BIPOC and people who don’t enjoy thinking about tech features! Would also love to see quicker adoption of features people are calling for, like opt-in quote toots. Also, more humility & dialogue pls on how to make the fedi mirror the demographics of our planet: more ownership and participation from the global south, more BIPOC leadership and participation

@rolle I think many will end up being incorporated in blooski as a result. Kind of like the ideologue who runs for office and who may not win but whose platform gets adopted thereafter by any one who wants to capture the zeitgeist

well I just waded in on bluesky and tried to defend mastodon after bluesky’s lead developer took a big pot shot at the entire platform, and as you’d guess, I’m now just being quote tweeted and made fun of by random anonymous bluesky accts and dunked by some of their most prominent users.everything that made twitter a mental health disaster for me, right back in my face

I think both trump and musk have taught us how fascist leaders gain power: they understand all press is good press, triggering the opposition tricks the opposition into more press, and the inability of influencers to put morals over clout means the fascist leader will never starve for attention from all directions, even the opposition will hitch their stars to a black hole for likes
