@fitheach @yngmar We use a dehumidifier for our laundry, works really well and saves a ton of energy in Winter. I wouldn't drink the water distilled from that room as it'd be full of washing fluid distillates, but with some cleaning I'd happily use the unit elsewhere to make potable water in an emergency.

In the last week I've gone from never seeing a Fly Agaric to seeing tons of them - just needed a change of scenery. They don't grow in the primarily deciduous woods near my home but are everywhere in the primarily coniferous woods here.

This year's tree-nut #forage / #foraging is going great. First year collecting enough acorns to make flour, and first year collecting enough beechnuts to roast (and they are tasty, huzzah!).As I now have at least a cup of cold-leached flour, today I may try making a little loaf of acorn-bread, or maybe acorn-muffins. I have enough acorns yet to be processed to make another 3-5 cups over the coming month. In future years I hope to get better at collecting and rack up enough to keep me busy all winter.I've also made a batch of hot-leached acorn flour for making acorn-cocoa ("Oakoa") and it is good, especially with some hazelnut flour mixed in. It leaves a thick residue of starchy grinds at the bottom but imparts a gentle and satisfying flavour to hot oat milk, and scarcely needs sweetening. As I suspected, using hot-leached acorns for Oakoa was an improvement: made it much easier to mix and eliminated lumpiness.I was tempted to mince in some walnuts to add a little bitterness and see if that approached the flavour of cocoa, but i was motivated to stick to nuts I can rely on locally. That means Acorns, beech, and hazelnuts. Though I may experiment with adding some herbal bitters, later. I was wondering whether to add powdered rosehips for sweetness and aroma also, that can be an experiment for a future batch perhaps.

So, are we all ready for a UK PM who has legally declared before a notary that he has no intention of living in the country long-term? :bloblaugh:

I'll be disappointed if Sunak's first PMQs don't include someone asking him "So Prime Minister, when are you leaving?"

@fitheach Dunno, but declaring "Non-domicile" tax status should really disqualify someone from office, I just think it's hilarious that he'll probably be PM now.

First cup of tea from my own bush - I would describe it as a sort of "bricker's oolong". I bruised the leaves and wrapped them loosely in a beeswax wrap, and left them on our (insulated) hot water cylinder to oxidise - I think I didn't bruise them well enough as many leaves remained fully green and waxy after 24h while others went fully brown and floppy. I bruised again and left another 8h or so, then dehydrated and left overnight in a covered mug. Happy with the taste and aroma, so for a first time it turned out well!(cc @tfb )
