@joel @pixelherodev @mike I'm hoping they fix the weird bugs they've introduced like the fact my phone occasionally purrs like a cat for no reason I can see, or just leaves the gesture navigation icon in the middle of my screen in the youtube app.

I can throw HTML and CSS up on a page no problem, but there's some ineffable quality about some well made webpage design I just can't implement myself when I try. On the other hand, I love having a custom designed website, rather than a cookie cutter site that just borrows from an open source repo.I'd like to pay someone to design me something I can implement myself, but other than fiver I wouldn't know where to look.

@kev @ru it wasn't clear from the post what the downside of write.as is? Is it purely cost? I can't bring myself to NOT host myself, and the thing that's missing in the self hosting space is an alternative that will work on shared hosting the way PHP software will. All the new stuff coming out requires full ownership of the box you're using. Actually, now I think about it I wonder if there's a service that would let you spin up a docker container and leave all the networking to the host...

Can I get some fedi advice? My 14yo (recent ADHD diagnosis, may or may not be relevant) has recently had a massive crisis of confidence in themselves, has not attended school due to illness for half a year, and is stuck learning maths with mum and dad because the school says it's the most important thing to keep up with. However, they flip out within *minutes* any time we try and actually do maths with them. As in, if we started a timer, we'd almost never get to 10 minutes before a giant meltdown about how impossible it all is, even with the most rudimentary of concepts.I want to understand, and _sort of_ do from my own life, as I often want to run away from stuff that I think is hard, and found assignments almost impossible in my own academic life, but this seems to be above and beyond my own struggles into something so intense I can barely fathom it.Can anyone who had a similar childhood explain what they're going through? I find maths concepts easy, and I get that's my privilege, so I don't begrudge them not getting it immediately, but they seem to be running away from it even at the most primitive level. I can provide examples if anyone thinks that's relevant, but I'm mostly trying to get in their head and see it from their perspective because I can't grasp it. I dumb it down so much and they just argue with me that they'll never understand, while ignoring simple prompts I'm giving them I *know* they can answer. Please help me understand.

They say it's a myth that cracking your knuckles every day will give you arthritis. What's not a myth is the fact that pulling a sword from a stone every day will give you king-arthuritis.

That's a weird take."How DARE you lump our instance in with fascists!! We are most certainly not fascists!"Oh sorry, our mistake, the real reason is your instance is ok with racism. "Well we can talk about that, but DON'T call us fascists!!"

I've been putting off mentioning job hunt here in case my employer sees it, but you're all literally my best chance to find something better than I can get on Seek. I know I won't ever find my dream job, but if I don't put what I'm looking at into words, I won't know it if I see it. So this isn't me sneering at jobs that don't match, but just putting out there what I'd love in an ideal world.

I'm a developer (around 8 years of PHP and JS and MySQL) who cares about writing clean smart code. I work best when I can brainstorm and design with other smart people, and also love to wrestle with problems by myself to find elegant solutions. I'm based an hour out of Adelaide, Australia but I'm looking for remote work if possible. My dream job would be with a team of smart people who want to build clever solutions to real problems. I would ideally love to work somewhere where profit isn't the driving motivation - a collective, charity, or non-profit. I need to work somewhere that values internal development over external contractors.I'm not a tech bro who thinks everything can be fixed with the right technical solution, but If I could support the people who *are* working at the big problems, that would be amazing.

Just a note to anyone who has a problem with crowdfunding and mutual aid.The aus.aocial mods will never punish someone for asking for help. Things are fucked for a lot of people now and policing charity is a dick move.Yes, people will take advantage of that, and no it's not "fair", but I'd rather err on the side of accidentally helping someone out who doesn't need it than inaccurately accusing someone in need.Don't give more than you can afford, stay safe, but give without strings attached, and spread it around if it concerns you to give too much to someone who might not deserve it.
