Because I am a ridiculous person, I biked clear across town and back (Somerville - Roslindale) on the coldest day of the year. Yes I could have just taken the T. And yes I still stopped for this shot. #BikeTooter #RadMission #EBike

“Pet peeve” implies the existence of wild, feral peeves as well

One memory that frequently stands out is when I was with a group of friends heading somewhere after a show. Most of us were on foot. I was walking my bicycle with them. Another friend was riding their bike at waking speed with us on the sidewalk. Some busybody decided to snidely remark in passing “you’re supposed to be in the street!” (Without making eye contact).I immediately peeled off from the group and confronted her 1/

I informed her that bicycles *are* indeed allowed on sidewalks except in designated areas, in which we were not. She left in a flustered huff, which was good enough for me in the moment but I still wish I had been able to fully communicate just how wrong she was.1. The street was narrow and busy, with no shoulder or bike lanes. I, as an able bodied young man would ride on it but I fully understand why someone wouldn’t.2. We were moving at a walking pace, with other walkers! 2/

       3. I was indeed a pedestrian at that moment. Are we now suddenly not allowed to *walk* our bikes either? But really, the most frustrating part that this nimby busybody had no right to know but I wish she was more conscientious of:4. My friend riding can’t walk more than a few yards at a time. The bike is their mobility device. People with mobility challenges do not owe you looking the part, and should be able to use whatever aids are affordable and available.

I’m going to say this again for emphasis: disabled people do not owe you the appearance of disability.

This is a really nice read if you wanna feel optimistic about passenger rail #infrastructure in the US. #amtrak #passengerrail #trainshttps://www.fastcompany.com/90980252/the-us-is-having-a-rail-travel-renaissance-but-you-probably-didnt-notice

One thing I feel like a lot of people miss is that we don't necessarily need true "high speed" rail. To make rail attractive, it just has to be faster than driving and more comfortable than (and competitively priced with) air travel. Conventional rail can go up to 125 mph in some cases. Amtrak's existing long distance routes hit 90 where they can. That's already faster than driving.

I've posted this before but I dream of a 10-12 hour night train from Boston to Chicago. I could get off work, bike a few blocks to the station, hop on the train (with bike), have dinner, grab a drink and read my book, go to sleep, wake up in Chicago and bike to brunch with my friends.

Got caught in bike traffic last night. It dawns on me that there are going to be new evolving social norms around bike traffic. Even ran in to some bike road rage, which like... if we could just *not* that would be great.

I know none of you on here would do this, but if folks on bikes could not yell at folks walking, that would be great. We need bike/ped solidarity not antagonism.

Shared this on other socials but I figured #BikeTooter might appreciate it - what started out as a small project to replace some worn out cables ended up with me repainting my All-City Space Horse over the last few weeks. Here’s the before and after; I’m quite pleased with how it turned out!

That is also the bike I’ll be riding to Montreal in just 3 weeks time as part of a fundraising ride for the Boston Cyclists Union. If you’d like to support my ride by making a contribution to the BCU, I would be very thankful! https://secure.qgiv.com/event/bostreal2024/account/1708966

The nice thing about having a distinctive bike is that you can be recognized from further away - I was on a group ride yesterday, and another friend who was on a different group ride recognized me from down the road a ways

@foone I was running for local office and wanted to make better video content since that's what the apps are pushing these days. I bought some little wireless lapel mics and I absolutely love them! They have optional noise cancelling built in, they clip on using a super strong magnet so you can attach them anywhere that's convenient, they include a wind screen for outdoor recording, and they're about the size of a quarter!
