Perhaps stupid question - why set up a #Liberapay account, if it simply links up to two US based payment processors, Stripe and PayPal (as far as I understand); instead of just linking to your PayPal account directly?

And what do people think of #flattr - I deleted my account a while ago; they have adjusted to GDPR and all, and are based in Europe (company in Sweden, and payment provider in Luxembourg). They are for-profit though (like Patreon I guess), taking 5% commission. Not sure I like their browser add-on idea, leaving a big data trail, I guess.

Also I don't understand. In 2006, Liberapay's FAQ mentions you can withdraw through SEPA - https://web.archive.org/web/20160429202150/https://liberapay.com/about/faq - but in 2019 it writes "in the near future SEPA Direct Debits" will be possible. How did they manage to invert the arrow of time?

Any ideas of esoteric ways to translate particular types of images to sound? I tried all the usual suspects, from direct encoding to Fourier and Wavelet transforms, to 2D -> 1D singular value decomposition. Nothing seems to produce anything interesting from this…

Even if Google is bad, them winning in the US supreme court in the dispute with Oracle is good news. It means APIs are not as such covered by copyright, and you can thus create new implementations for existing API.
