@lowqualityfacts i feel like it is especially obvious when they use the footage from muppets Christmas carol. Victorian sleeping caps do not blend in well with 21st century styled 🙄

@futurebird Have you read The Truth by Terry Pratchett? It's part of his Discworld books and focuses on the advent of the newspaper and journalism. I just finished rereading it last night and I think it really captures a lot of that balance between the good and the bad that journalism can do.

@futurebird libro.fm is a good alternative if you prefer to buy the audiobooks. They have a similar subscription service if you like that aspect. A portion of the proceeds support local bookstores like bookshop.org does with physical books. You local library also probably has some good audiobook apps too.

@futurebird my understanding is that, in cladistics, basal refers to the more "primitive" or ancient species or trait, i.e., closer to the origin. Basal here being the more accurate term than primitive because primitive has connotations of "less good" or "un-evolved". There are plenty of modern species that are more basal than others but do just fine, because those traits meet their needs for survival. Less basal species are often -but not always- more specialized.

@futurebird @lnlyisol when I'm having trouble getting useful results from search engines because my search is too niche (see recent quest to discover how best to use dryer lint for making little sculptures) I find the marginalia search engine more useful. It surfaced a number of articles on the discontinuation of the reflective paint. https://marginalia-search.com/search?query=reindeer+reflective+paint+&profile=corpo
