@simon one thing to note is I ate at a Michelin star restaurant in Tokyo and it was about $15 for their signature meal with options (spoiler: ramen https://www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2015/10/16/food/japanese-soba-noodles-tsuta-dont-let-name-fool-best-ramen-northern-tokyo/#.Vl2wD9-rSgR )

@simon I have thought the same for a very longtime. There are going to be a lot of accidents and we are not ready for it but I see it as inevitable. On top of that I think we will find many more doing things we only thought eccentric experts could do. So I feel it is vitally important to understand this new world, and how to make it safer without just denying it out of hand.

@simon I am still quite happy with hover.com .. no annoying ads or promotions.. just lets me take care of my domains (all 39 of them). Biggest problem is likely that I am not sure that they support having multiple payment methods. I have never tried (I set it up with ApplePay).Oh, and apparently there is a referral link - https://hover.com/JpP2KUyPThey are run by Tucows.

@simon multiple payment methods aside, I have had my payment method with them expire and I got an email that renewal did not work due to payment.. updated the info and moved on. You can also set up an account balance that is used for all renewals, and if that reaches $0.00 they will then use your default payment method. @simon one option if you are good at budgeting and tasks is to keep a balance and remember to top it off on a schedule, like once a year.

@simon I mirror with other providers and... I keep a local copy at home. (I mean.. terabytes of local disk is pretty easy.. but you want it backed up.. ) (I use Backblaze B2 and Digital Ocean, and minio on machines in my home.)

@simon My take is that "it will get better" (as long as people are trying to make it better.)I mean, I feel that it is going to happen so we should prepare for it. That means ways of testing, verifying, constraining, improving. Even if it does not pain out, the effort in finding ways to validate the code it produces will be valuable regardless.

@simon @timbray I use auto-renew at hover.com .. I guess the only issue is if I need to change payment methods (but that will require a lot of other things.. so I have a list for that.)
